My puppy is just a year old, so I found this odd at first. It looked first like just hair was falling off, but after a while it looks like a wound, the hair just fell off. And when you touch it, it was a little sticky, and now it's hard, I'm not sure why it's happened. Does anyone's dog have similar wounds?

it could be a "hot spot" basically really itchy and the dog chews off his own hair and skin to try to get it to stop. If it's just been a few days he may have just had a bad itch - but if it's been longer take him to the vet.

Just put some healing cream on the sore. Its a good thing the hair fell off around the sore. You don't want it getting infected. It was sticky because it was probably a fresh wounnd. Now I'm sure that it's healing and begining to scab. That's why it's hard. Just keep an eye on it. If it doesn't get better, take your dog to the vet.

My dog has something similar on his back, but it's hardened. I think it's a scar.

I don't know if it was ever "sticky" though since he's had it since I have had him.

What I can tell you is that it is most likely harmless. My dog has been to the vet several times and the vet has never said it would be harmful, but if you are worried you should ask the vet about it.

It also won't grow hair ever again. Riley's just looks like a blackish piece of skin.

My dog lost hair for a bit.

Your poor guy has allergies or mange.

Either way your poor dog is suffering and needs some meds and probably a diet change. You want a food that stays away from Corn (a common dog allergy), wheat, soy and dairy. I could list 20 different brands but you might be better off google-ing natural dog food or holistic dog food

If it is not mange and a food change does not work then you may need to see a dog dermatologist.

I've seen this before, but to safe, take her to the vet. It looks like a "hot spot" caused by and allergic reaction from flea spit.
Or it could be an allergic reaction from something in the air.
Is she licking it a lot, chewing on it?
It doesn't look like mange, but go to the vet anyway.
Just took one of the hubby's beagles to the vet for a "hot spot" looking place on her tail. While it wasn't a hot spot, he thinks it's an allergic reaction to something in the air.
Poor baby got a shot in the behind, and antibiotics for ten days.
Also got put on a diet cause she's FAT. 57 pound beagle!

You need to take it to the vet as soon as possible, you don't want to wait before it's too late.
