do "pick up lines" work?

are woman able to decern between genuine compliments and pick up lines? or is this where the so called 6th sense or intuition comes into play?

The guy can sound too sincere and cheesy when its a pick up line!! Desperately racking my brains to think of the cheesy lines to get the 10 points but its so long since I have been chatted up, I can't remember them!!

Of course they do, but not cheesy pick up lines, like "how do you like your eggs in the morning?". Only super smooth pick up lines work, and they have to be just right at the time, and well adapted to the situation.

You have to know what to say, and when to say it...and when you do....it works like a charm.

Pick up lines have to be different for each girl, and for each time. Some girls just need to hear one certain thing and they are all ears. The hard part is knowing what that "certain thing" is.

Don't plan ahead, just let it flow.

My pick up line on my (future) wife - it was midday Sunday and we were in a club in Barcelona, met the night before through mutual friends and after having danced all night and all morning, was something along the lines of - "I'm moving flat in 3 hours time, will you come and help me pack my bags?"

Made her laugh, ask a few questions a bit deeper about me, realised I wasn't complete crazy and said yes. The rest is history.

Depends on the girl. If the girl is witty, she'll get a kick out of your efforts. If she's not light-hearted, she's probably not worth your time.

Women can definitely tell when its a pickup line though and/or a sincere compliment. Sincere compliments usually work best.

Most women like a guy that can make them laugh.

I had a manager recently who used all those crap cheap lines and have to admit that most of the women used to fall over themselves when he came into the office. But the one woman he really liked thought he was a t*sser and would not give him the time of day exept for the entertainment value he had. So if you are really serious about a girl then don't do it be genuine

Depends on the delivery, if you go up to a girl whos stood waiting for someone (an so cant just walk away) you've got a better chance. Also say it dead pan, wait a moment then, before she has time to react, let a big grin go across your face and start apologising while laughing claiming you mates put you up to it. Doesn't work very often but its your best bet.

For a more likely chance of success just start chatting to them at the bar or something, just be confident and yourself.

Yes and No! It really depends on what mood the lady is in. We know all the lines so if we are feeling happy and receptive then we will let you pick us up with one of your lines. BUT if we are unhappy and unreceptive then look out. I guess what you men need to do is kinda sit back and watch someone for a little while and see what kind of mood they are in before moving in. We expect no answer from Mary, we give her no thanks for any favors she has bestowed, because favors only come from God. This is not prayer. Have you never asked someone to pray for you? Have you never prayed for somebody? Why do you object to our friends in heaven praying for us? The Hail Mary is not a central prayer in the Catholic liturgy. In fact, I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've heard it said during a mass, yet the Our Father is said at every single mass. I grant you that some Catholics have misunderstood the teaching, and promoted mary to a cult like goddess figure, but this is not a teaching of the Catholic Canon.

They don't really work I say start off with some casual conversation and maybe ask to buy her a drink or something but give compliments only after talking to her for a while, b/c if you give her a compliment right off she may think you're only in it for sex and don't want to have a civilized conversation with her and because it can be embarassing to both people.

cheesy pick up lines really do not work! but as for real compliments u just hav to think of a way to put it without sounding lame. if u came up to me and said " ur hair smells as sweet as a spring time garden filled with all the wildest flowers in the land" id laugh in ur face.

rarely ever do pickup lines work. unless a pick up line is part of a conversation with the girl you like, they will work, but otherwise they wont at all. girls want to have a converstaion with you. You should try a pickup line on a girl you dont really like but you think is hot. if it works, then you might get a knob job tonight buddy.
