The last day of the year (or New Year's Eve) is December 31st. And the first day of the New Year is January 1st.

However if you are Jewish, their Religious New Year is in September (this year it falls on Sept 22) but that date changes every year. It's called Rosh Hashanah. And if you are Chinese, then they celebrate their New Year in February.

But for the rest of us, it's January 1st. Always. No matter what day of the week it falls on.
