Its not that bad they numb you up pretty good before they take it out..
All you feel is the pressure when they pull it out

Me and my sister both had it done only a few years apart. Make sure you go to a well recommended doctor. My sister had horrible pain and couldnt eat Anythng besides milkshakes for a week and her cheeks were so swollen and bruised for about 3 days.
Personally I was eatting pudding that same day and was back to normal food the next. I took the pain meds for a few days because of occasional irrataion but I didnt really swell up at all or bruise. I was in pretty bad pain when I first woke up after the surgery but a couple hours later i was fine. Personally 1 of my wisdom teeth was starting to come thru when I had it done and it hurt like hell having that tooth come in more pain and annoyance than removing all four! If you go to a good doctor and you have a reasonable pain level you should be fine. It is easier the younger you are I've heard. Good luck if you do have the surgery!

Lots of people posting here seemed to have an unusually bad experience with there extractions. There is discomfort involved but it is controlled with medication (anesthetic, sedatives and pain pills). Every situation is different. As stated above, if it's an upper only then not so bad. Lowers are the ones that can lead to dry sockets, are harder to numb and the bone is denser. I would recommend going to an oral surgeon who can pop out 4 impacted wisdom teeth in about 15 minutes. I also would recommend sedation if lowers are involved. Follow instructions carefully and even if you get a dry socket- it can immediately be packed with a paste that instantly resolves the discomfort. Good luck

It was pretty bad. I was thirty when I had it taken out and the root was hooked which made it really hard to get out. It was an upper tooth too which I think is harder than having a lower tooth removed. Anyway, the doctor worked on it for like an hour and then the tooth broke during the removal! All in all, a most horrible experience.

I had all 4 removed at once. It wasn't too bad. I felt more of a pulling and yanking sensation than pain, one of the teeth broke in my jaw so they really had to dig to get it out.

The worst part was when the drugs started wearing off... then it hurt! You also get naseous from all the blood you swallow from the surgery, so don't be surprised if you spend the first night with your face over the toilet.

If you are still in pain and swollen after a couple of days, let the dentist know. I was, and I waited too long to get seen...I ended up having "dry sockets" and one even healed leaving an open gap in my gums which is still there to this day (20 years later).

Hope you have an easy recovery!

I had one pulled for orthodontic reasons. My dentist was pretty strong so it didn't take a lot of pulling. I could feel pressure under the Novocaine, but getting those injections was more traumatic for me than the actual extraction.
If you need oral surgery to remove it because it is impacted then I don't know. Mine was already emerged enough for the dentist to get a good grip and just pull it out. The root was fairly long too, but he got it all in one piece. Sadly, Dr. Tanner is passed away now. If he were alive I'm sure he would be retired by now anyway.
Good Luck to you.

I think its worse on the Dentist...it took over an hour...no pain, just to have to keep your mouth so wide open, sucks...but I know I had it done....that the main thing...after wards, my face was swollen...just take some pain killers, and that's it...its also a good way to start a diet at the same time...'cause one cant eat real good for a week...

ps. the upper one are always easier..to put the gum asleep and such...dont wait until your gums are in bad shape...do it now!!

I had all four of mine out, two were impacted. I went to an oral surgeon who did an excellent job. I was numb most of the first day. I took pain meds for the first couple days. I used ice packs on/off each day and didn't have much swelling. Overall, it was MUCH better than I had expected it to be. I heard horror stories but I had a good experience. Good luck :) Listen to all instructions your given.

I had all four of mine taken out at the same visit. It wasn't so bad. I had an infection which is why they had to pull them. The next day I felt so much better. A little swelling, a little bleeding, but you'll live through it. Good luck!

Just as bad as any other tooth. Just don't get dry socket that is the worst pain . I seriously would give birth 5 times with no drugs is not as painful as dry socket.

it all depends if they are impacted -

I had general anesthesia - had all four taken out at once. The stitches were uncomfortable (when people make you laugh) and since I swallowed blood I puked after the procedure. The swelling went away after a night of drinking. I would do it the same way again.
