Religious nuts are prideful. Out of 10,000 different religions in the world, they THINK they were born into the "correct" one. They are so egotistical, they think they are not related to chimps and all other living things. They are so self-centered, they think God talks to THEM, and answers their requests. Religious people have so much pride and ego, that they will kill those who disagree in a religious war.

Why does being able to solve your own problems have to be looked at negatively? What's wrong with having an ego? What's wrong with pride? Nothing. There is a problem with too much ego, pride, but that's where balance comes in and finding that balance once again has to come from within.
That's when you get the greatest satisfaction, not when you think some superior being did it for you. It's like being able to master a sport or a musical instrument, or writing a song or a book, or painting a picture. When I see someone thank god for writing a great song, or winning the big game, it makes me puke. They did it because of their talent and nothing else. Take credit when credit is due for crying out loud !!! You think god cares about who won a game??? When people are starving and dying??? If so, I find that disgusting, that god sucks, period.
Ego and pride are just other words for confidence and if being confident about yourself and being able to be happy without some outside force to help you is a crime, then lock me the f*ck up.
At least that's my way of looking at it.

The answer is simple:
1) Acknowledging a Higher Authority or God means you are responsible for your actions.
2) Responsibility for your actions means consequences.
3) Consequences mean the concept of good and bad--reward and punishment. Heaven or hell.
Now obviously not many people want to go to hell so they choose to ignore the ultimate authority of God and try to be "strong" in their own might and cool by saying that only weak people need a religion or a god.
Not sure if you know of this fact or not but here goes: A pigeon (especially pet ones) as soon as it sees a cat that is about to prey on it, CLOSES ITS EYES. The idea in the pigeon's mind is that if it cannot see the cat, it does not exist, or if it can ignore the consequence then it will be fine and live. It's kind of like little kids sometimes when playing, they will cover their eyes with their hands and pretend to be invisible and tell those nearby that they cannot see them.
The 'comfort factor' for people to not submit to God is if they don't talk about Him, don't acknowledge His power and try to ignore Him instead, they won't have to face Him on the Day of Judgement. Boy, are they wrong!
Basically, in a nutshell, if you don't acknowledge God, you don't have to give up your lifestyle of sin, which is just too much fun to quit/give up and so it's better to try to "fix" your own problems. That way you are "tough enough" and don't need a god to depend on.
Just blindness and stupidity as far as God and I are concerned.
Hope that answered some. All the best!

You may be onto something here. It does prompt a similar question. Are believer's so incompetent in solving their problems and do they have such a weak self-image and weak self-confidence that they run to a parent figure for everything, whether it's mom and dad or "God?" Is it just that they haven't been allowed or required to develop self-sufficiency and can't rid themselves of parental dependency issues, or does it run deeper than that? Sigmund Freud's excellent "Moses and Monotheism" explores this notion and it seems to fit. What do you think?

Personally it runs much deeper for me. I don't reject the idea of god or gods simply because i feel that i can overcome anything that's thrown at me (which i can't, really) but because i recognize the absurdity of the claim based on the knowledge we have available to us today. Being able to take responsibility for myself is a positive side effect of this realization.

Sorry, think you are a bit confused here.
The ones that are without God, as you put it, are well adjusted, accepting, tolerant and far more moral.
Christians are doctrinal, seek to dictate to non believers, are judgemental, egotistical and cling to the crutch of religion.
The direct connection you seek to apply to non believers will attach itself to you on judgement day when you are called to account for your sins of egotism, and holier than thou attitude. Of course you are not worried are you? Your not? Try reading your bible about the sins of pride and the like!!
Of course there wont be a judgement day but you of course will go on fearing it won't you?

Pride and ego have nothing to do with it....it's the complete lack of EVIDENCE that convinces me to dismiss the biblegod out of hand as the superstitious ramblings of a bunch of Bronze Age primitives....

We don't need the little god that lives inside the human brain. We can use that space otherwise, even if we can't solve all our problems, many of which are actually caused by religious people.

Everyone is best suited to fix their own problems. Some use a god in their method, others don't.

Is your pride blinding you to the existence and power of Zeus?
It runs far shallower then that. All I can count on for certainty is myself, friends, and family.
When I am in trouble I turn to them and myself for help.
