have some food or cat milk ready in his own bowl on one side. Put something in your milk to make it taste yuk to him ( don't drink it either!)

when he jumps up he will taste the milk which of course he won't like. cont. to say no firmly then take him to his own bowl which will have something yummy in. he will soon realise you have nothing worth having and he has!

Train your cat NOT to jump up on kitchen counters, climb on the couch, scratch on furniture, get in the laundry basket, or whatever other thing you want to stop.
Steps
Cats hate both water and citrus smells, so put lemon or orange peels near areas that you don't want your cat by or on.
Get a small trigger spray bottle and fill it with water, in case your cat does not care about the citrus smells.
When the cat starts doing the behavior you want to eliminate, simply squirt the cat once with the water. Do not squirt your cat in the face, and try to make sure your cat doesn't see you squirting him.
The cat will immediately stop the behavior and run a little distance away. If he didn't see you, he'll think the behavior he was doing triggered the water, and he'll soon learn that doing that behavior might not be a good idea. If he did see you, he can get sneaky and only do the behavior when you're not around.
Repeat as many times as necessary, but I guarantee it won't take too long before the cat stops the behavior.

Tips
Cats are sneaky, which is why it's best to not let your cat know that you're the one squirting him. If he sees you, he may only do that behavior when you're not around - and you want the behavior to stop ALL the time.
If you have a new kitten, teach them from day one, not to go on counters, or tables. Do not feed them on or near the table, so they will not look for food on there.
You can also try putting 'Sticky Paws' on counters or places you don't want your cat to go. Cats loathe their paws being sticky, and will avoid the sticky surface.

Warnings
Never hit a cat! It doesn't work and could traumatize them, especially if they're still young. If you need to reinforce your "No," try clapping loudly.

Well 1st off he is a kitten so just like a little kid they don't just hear it once and get the picture. Hitting him on the nose is not a good idea. When training cats physical punishment is the wrong direction. Cats don't respond well and they don't really know why the heck your hitting them. I would try to just keep him down. My cats try to get my food but I just yell at them NO and keep them down and away when I'm eating. It will take a while he is just little so give it time.

He has to been seen by using a vet. A kitten won't be able to bypass very long without eating. attempt giving him some thing tempting like tuna (no longer reliable for long term feeding). reliable luck.. I even have 2 kittens and one stopped eating final week. i ended up on the emergency vet clinical institution. He has to have fluids.

This cat is learning to manipulate you. If you have a hamburglar for a cat.....you HAVE to seperate him while you eat. I breed Devon rex cats and they are notorious for stealing food. I have learned you cannot leave food on the counter, unattended at bedside, even dirty dishes in the sink.....They will come and scavenge. Even if he cries....let him. It won't hurt him...but if you feel that bad, offer him a special treat AFTER you eat. The treat can consist of anything from Pounce to a small piece of ham or turkey lunchmeat. Good Luck....and my sympathies...Last year one of my 5 pound adult Devons ran off with an ENTIRE leg on Turkey day....It happens.

Training pets is a process.....it takes time and pets are just like children when it comes to raising.....they know what their limits are and they test them all the time.....if you don't want your kitten in your food or drinks just keep doing what you are doing....set them down on the floor...tell them "NO"....this may take 100 times but the point will come across....as far as crying in the cage weather it's open or not is on the same premise of when a child cries.....if mommy comes running to pick me up when I cry I'll just keep crying and get what I want....you see what I'm saying??.....just let him/her cry....they will quit after a while....GOOD LUCK !!!

Our male cat did this ALL THE TIME.

Our solution was to feed him in a seperate room when we sit down to eat. he is on a "fedding schedual" now, and generally leaves us alone when we are eating.

If he eats too quickly, try putting a big rock ( i know, sounds crazy) in his dish, and he'll have to slow down to eat around the rock. Just make sure there is enough room for him to get at the food :D

Keep a spritz bottle of water near you when you eat. When he
tries to get into your food spritz him and say no firmly. He will
get the point as most cats don't like water and hate to be sprayed
in the face. Be consistent and firm.

maybe your not caring for him enough and he wants more attention. hitting him on the nose wont make it any better. he'll just keep doing it until he gets what he wants. attention.
