I've seen people wearing them at sporting events and other places where's they're clearly not needed. I could see wearing one in the car or somewhere where you need to use both hands for something else. You look like a retard!

Lindsay - I have a Management Info Systems degree. Just because you took one lousy computer class doesn't mean you all of the sudden have this amazing grasp on the future.
I know what technology has in store and I still can't see everyone with a phone clipped to their ear looking like spock.

I have a Bluetooth that I use while driving but rarely ever wear it anywhere else. I think they look a bit geeky but it sure is nice for driving. Better than tangling cords in your shirt.

That is my new pet peeve. I hate seeing people wear blue tooth to Wal-Mart, the park, out for a walk. I was at a party a few nights ago and some guy had his bluetooth on talking in it. He looked like a moron. I realize bluetooth is a very handy device to have if you are on the go or are very busy but really, do people need to wear them to parties? They don't look cool, they aren't needed, and people look like idiots talking on them. How lazy do you have to be to not want to hold a tiny cell 3 ounce cell phone up the your ear?

Yep, that's pretty stupid. I agree with using bluetooth when: driving... Well, that's about it! No, and if you're working and have to take notes so that's it's easier. Otherwise, it's kind of stupid! Above all at a party. I mean, you're not supposed to talk on the phone for hours at a party! Might just as well stay home.

That and cell phones in public are my two biggest pet peeves! Unless you are a physician or some other professional dealing with life and death - I see no need to be constantly "connected" to the outside world. I really feel that people who do this want people to think they are important. Having a cell phone in their ear or a Bluetooth dangling announces to the world " Look at me! I have money and I am important." I cannot wait to leave the office everyday and shut down my laptop till the next morning. I use my cell only for important calls and NEVER do I carry on conversations in public. Yes, I am a professional who is tech savvy and use technology almost constantly in my job. Thats what makes disconnecting so pleasurable. I love being "unreachable" once and a while. These people should try it before they become so dependent on technology that they can no longer relate to people face to face.

I have a Bluetooth device that I do not use because of the sound quality, I hear fine, but everyone I talk to say it sounds like I am talking into a tin can. I always call it a "dork device".

There is a subculture here in the states that get drawn to such things. Just like the guys with all the keys or the girls who talk to loud and laugh at nothing they want to be noticed and use tec toys to do it. Just like crows on a fence the loud one gets the attention.

Said technology simply happened to be a measure of success at one point in time and is iconic with public consumerist media, such as science fictions and action movies.

Bluetooth technology is a coming of age, with in the next five years everything will have that kind of technology.
Your fridge will keep record of what's inside and will be able to call it and find out what your out of.
The lines at the grocery store will move faster, because the moment you put your groceries on the table, it will know exactly what you have, with out needing to scan each item separately.
And it will be able to do a bunch of other things. So think about that the next time you call someone a retard for having a product that uses bluetooth.

Probably the same reason they think the Motorola Razr is cool...new and different. Personally, I think both of them are crappy. Razrs are too thin, and everyone I know who has (or had) one has broken them in half from flipping them open. :) I have a bluetooth headseat (a pretty nice one that my husband bought me) and I've used it exactly once in the year that I've had it.

My brother had a bluetooth, but the dentist fixed it. What is the big deal? Not everyone can afford good dental procedures. That does not make them a retard. It just means they do not have an adequate dental plan.
