yes do the garbage or ziploc bag thing, but also be sure to tape it down nice and tight around the lens. then get a lens hood (try to get one that extends pretty far), or make your own. you can make your own from 2 liter bottles, cardboard, or plastic, just experiment with making them fit. an easy way is to cut out the top part of a 2 liter, then cut out the spout, and attach it to your camera, then attach cardboard or plastic panels for added protection (if necessary. just remember that the hood needs to go out from the lens, so that it doesnt get captured on video).

also, put a UV filter on the lens, if you have one. itll protect the lens from any rain that might get on it, and it also gets you a better picture. hope this helps!

Yep. The plastic bags from the grocery store (no, not the blue ones, the ones you get for produce) are perfect size for the average camcorder. Stick a few in your gadget bag.

I've used them, just as the previous poster describes, even in a blizzard.

I'm not joking here. Put it in a large Ziploc or wrap it with a garbage bag, and cut a hole for the lens. It works great, and is cheap. I prefer the Ziploc trick. I've have to do this with my TV camera on more than one occasion.
