We actually had to discourage the first one from walking when he was 6 months. Every time he stood up, we picked him up and sat him down. We did this because we read an article about how children who walked too soon will have problem and eventually need to wear braces for a couple of years in grade school. But after a talk with his pediatrician, we let nature take its course. The pediatrician said if he's walking, he's strong enough. Not to worry.

With my son, I thought he would never walk. Then I started babysitting a little boy who was 20 months old and my son was 13 months and started to walk because he wanted to keep up with the little boy. He made it seem like he was walking for a long time. He just wasn't around any other kids to watch them and try to imitate what they did. My daughter is 7 1/2 months old and I think she will start walking a lot sooner because she will watch her brother and the other little boy I babysit. I think if kids are around other little kids, they will walk sooner. That is just my opinion.

My two older children walked at 9 months. That was them walking really well and without help. My youngest will be 10 mths old next week and is just beginning to try to pull up into a stand. I think that she will be closer to one year for walking. Kids are so different. Have fun watching her learn such a great thing. Enjoy life...it goes by fast!

My second daughter was 9 months old, and my oldest was right around 12 or 13 months. My doc said anywhere between 10-18 months is average.

Mine were about a year old. Most kids start between 9-13 months.
There is no way a baby can walk at 5 months!

My son was a 8months, he refused to crawl and went straight for walking. His cousin who is a month older started walking a few weeks after him. The record in my family was me, I figured out how to stand at 4 months and walked at 5, I never believed it until I saw pics. I guess I had to keep up with my older sisters.
