yes, it is improper use, unless you are practicing together, or if they are threatening you and you use it not to hurt them , but to let them know that you're not kidding around.

I've used my techniques on friends before, but only because I wanted them to stop and think about what they were doing, and to restrain them because I thought they were acting stupid.

Martial atr were not developed for play time use them for the purpose they weere created for defending yourself, if you haven't learned that yet, then you have learned nothing at all and are in Martial Arts for the WRONG reasons.

Using any martial art as a joke should not be practise. You may have all good intention on the technique that you want to play with, but may cause serious injury and a friendship to end. If your friend would like to learn what you know set something up to where it will be worth your wild to do so.

I dunno. I'm 5'7" and I have a friend who is 6'5".. he likes pushing me around a bit.. just joking around and stuff, but it's still annoying..

without martial arts, I know he would kick my a-- if we ever got into a serious fight... but I've been taking Kung Fu for a little over a year and I think I'd be able to hold my own against him now..

he seems to have an alpha dog mentality.. especially when we're in a group of people.. one of these days I could see myself using martial arts on him if he goes too far.. I don't think it would be wrong unless I took out a knee or something..

TKDash, why are you the most obnoxious person in the world? Do you really think you are some master of attack? TKD is a flashy, useless style. The second dude to answer is also an idiot. Clear he thinks that from something to be a martial art you need to get all religious about it. Boxing, fencing, kickboxing and wrestling are martial arts and they don't pull that buddha ****.

This is a horrible idea.
It is not a toy. You are jeopardizing yourself and others.

Also, there is a matter of respect here. In my school this is a big no-no. Sensei would have you know whats if he caught any of us doing this.

Also, I am a funny guy and I can tell you this is not a funny joke. Most likely you are trying to impress someone or show off.
This is a matter of ego which you should be learning to control through your training.

I am guessing you are still at that school that trains you one day a week and has scheduled test nights.
I really wish you would find a better school for your own good.

obviously it is improper use martial arts are only meant to be used to defend yourself if and when needed. they are also a way of calming the soul and getting fit. using it on your friends could seriously hurt them even if it was not intended.

As long as you do right... if you are using them to help you train and explain what you are doing... and don't hurt them, fine. If you are just joking around and do not hurt them... is it martial... isn't that just play... the fact that you know more about fighting doesn't necessarily make it martial arts. A kitten that play fights is honing their skills and making themselves stronger... would you say they are practicing a martial art... wow, way of track...best of luck... try not to hurt your friends. Don't brag...

I might be wrong but as far as I know you take a oath to only use martial arts to protect someone. That is off course if you are registered with a club. Otherwise it is just plain unproper - yes.

Yes....you must only use any form of Martial art for self defence or training purposes under supervision of your master, Not to show of in front of your mates.
If you accidentally kill your mate how would you feel? and don't say it wont happen....it does.
