(1)Non-violence(Ahimsa)--Satyam (Truth) were his weapons-The most powerful British Empire where "Sun had never set" which was not afraid of Hitler's guns, was trembling on these two weapons of sri Gandhi.People thought,Sticking to Truth (Satyaagraham) in thought, word and deed is not possible in Politics-remember Bernat Shaw's qoute "Politics is the last asylum of scoundrel"-sri.Mahathma Gandhi proved it is wrong. He found new technics called "Non-Co-Operation"&"Passive resistance" to oppose the British rule.He taught people that we oppose the British Imperialism and not the British people.During ine of the major opposition campaign, when the entire country was opposing the British rule and all the Congress leaders were in jail, there a small violence in a never heard village-Chouri-Choura,there was a petty violence-a police station was set on fire.sri.Gandhi withdrew the the entire campaign much to the annoyance to all the leaders.Much against the court rules and conventions the British judge stood up in respect when sri.Gandhi(accused) was brought to the court room, by the police-The British Judge said "as my duty I punish you and recommend to the Government to withdraw it-if the british Govenment withdraws it nobody other than me will be the most happiest-That was Mahathma-Somayaji

To know a person you don't have to meet in person. You know a person by his thoughts, actions, deeds and virtues. So Gandhi is a person from Indian history who was instrumental in getting independence from British. And he was damn simple person with minimum needs. Such persons are rare today.
