yes i question all the time. I was never brought up by my parents to believe in God. It was something I questioned myself for a long time before deciding that there has to be a higher power because everything else is worthless.
When I speak of believing by faith - i can only try and explain - that it is something I believe with all my heart, but will continue to question and grow within my mind.

I don't want to look at other sources, I have reason to believe it may convince me otherwise
if I question my beliefs, I believe I am told that is a sin and I can't ask why
looking for other answers is a sign of doubt and I may get thrown off Christian Survivor island for evolutionary considerations
by questioning my beliefs, I change my answers, and often find the answer in my question

I look for answers everywhere, constantly question my beliefs, and yet remain convinced of the benevolent, loving aspect of God, because I want to believe. If I didn't, I wouldn't. Faith can't be proven--that's why it is called "faith" and not "fact." But if it has what a beloved relative used to call "the ring of truth," then I cling to it like a drowning sailor to a raft.

Of course - God never said that I had to be simpleminded. If He didn't want me to think, He wouldn't have given me the ability. I have an abiding enjoyment of science. The father of genetics was a monk, who said that science could only magnify the greatness of God, and I agree. Everything from physics to psychology reveals the beauty of creation. Yes, I include evolution - if you can see it in operation, it exists. That doesn't mean that we really understand the process.
It's true that Jesus asked us to have the faith of a child, but children aren't stupid. Watch a child and see how eager they are, from birth, to take in everything around them.
My faith hasn't been perfect. Sometimes, it hasn't been easy. It's not easy to accept that there being a bigger plan means that you won't always see what sense there is in what happens. That someone can forgive what you can't, love those you can't, see more than you can.
It's also not easy to see how a person could have faith when so many who claim to be acting in the name of my God, or some other, treat everyone and everything around them with such contempt. How could a supreme being allow it?
God gives each of us free will, and we pay for the effect our free will has on others if we abuse it. I've seen it in action too many times to doubt it -- balance doesn't always come right away, but it comes, sometimes in ways the world may not see. Recompense for our good also comes back to us.
When you get on down to it, faith is a way of connecting to that which is larger than you, that which you can sense, but only see through its effects, much as an ant can't really take you in as a whole, but must interact with that tiny part of you it can see.
There are moments when I'm still, and calm, and can feel that presence around me. Do I know what God had for breakfast? His favorite color? Of course I don't. I do know that when I'm in touch with that presence, in harmony with it, my life goes more smoothly and I'm better to everyone around me.
My faith gives me comfort, and leads me to joy. It encourages me to be a better person, which leads me to more joy. It adds glory and majesty to the wonder of the physical world and enriches my human experience. Jung said that a human being without faith is like a three-legged stool with only two legs.

Faith not fear, historically fear has been used to herd the masses into obedience. Faith is believing in something better even if you can't prove it. I look at the miracle of creation, the complexity of life and I don't see technology or science but the work of loving hands. My faith comes from what I feel inside.

Faith is a lifestyle. Once I placed my faith in Jesus Christ I moved from the realm of believing to the realm of knowing based on experience/encounter.
Let me use an illustration that might help. Suppose you were driving down an unfamiliar highway and came to a bridge across a deep gorge. Before you crossed it, you'd want to ask yourself two questions. First, do I really need to get to the other side? And second, can I trust the bridge to hold me?
That's how it is with Jesus. You see, we are separated from God, and the reason is because we have sinned. In other words, there is a deep gorge between us and God—one too big for us to cross. And yet we need to get to the other side, because we need God. We need His help right now, and we need His eternal salvation.
What we need is a bridge—and God has provided one, because He loves us! That "bridge" is Christ, who gave Himself to save us. Therefore, the Bible says, "he is able to save completely those who come to God through him" (Hebrews 7:25). I pray you will cross that bridge today by trusting Christ and committing your life to Him.

I am a non-Christian but would like to post this definition of faith.
"There is a door beyond understanding, beyond belief, before the daylight, and before the dawn; this is the door to faith.
The serenity of believing that which cannot be believed; knowing that which is unknown, and trusting the universe to show us the way."

Many in the religious world preach and proclaim, "Salvation is by faith only." If that is true, note 1 Corinthians 13:2. Paul said, "If I have all faith , so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." If, as some allege, salvation is "by faith only," why would one who lacks love be "nothing" since he has "all faith"? The fact that one who lacks love is "nothing" shows that salvation is "not by faith only" (Jas. 2:24). Noah's faith obeyed God's commands, thus preparing him for the coming judgment. We are warned by Peter, "The world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. But the present heavens and earth by His word are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men" (2Pet. 3:6-7). Is your faith moving you to prepare for the future?
