It depends on the source of the bad breath. First try experimenting with his diet, eliminating certain foods known to cause bad breath and adding things that are known to help (Parsley isn't just a garnish). Make sure he brushes (Teeth and tongue) twice a day and flosses as well.

Is he taking any medications? Certain meds can cause bad breath.

If his breath persists after checking these, consider seeing your doctor - does he have any other symptoms? Chronic halitosis is sometimes just a symptom of more serious health problems; GERD, lung infections, diabetes, liver disorders... better safe than sorry.

Bad breath can be is a sign of poor oral hygiene. But it may also be a sign of a heath problem like diabetes or digestion problems.

He could have decaying teeth, or food that is stuck between his teeth that is literally rotting there. (eew gross) Brushing, flossing, tongue scraping and gargling will remove food particles and alot of the bacteria and acids that cause odor.

Best thing tho is to see a Dentist and Hygienist to get a good teeth cleaning and if that doesn't help, maybe see a medical Doctor to check on other possible health problems.

Lastly if hes eating things like spicy garlicky foods it can cause bad breath that's not specifically related to oral hygiene. Have him try eating a small parsley sprigs after eating, then brush and floss after every meal.

Parsley is a natural breath freshener.

Flossing everyday before bedtime is a must, followed by Listerine mouthwash. A lot of the food we eat gets trapped between the teeth specially meats, that cause bacteria and the most horable breath. If that doesn't work try superglue lipgloss.

Don't just use moutwash, pills, sprays or other quick fix stuff. You don't spray airfreshner on dead fish; just get rid of the fish!

If there are no problems in the oral region and he is regular with standard daily care, the problem could possibly lie in the stomach. Need to do the purging of stomach at week ends just for twice, no use of tobacco, be on as soft diet (porridge, fibrous fruit, etc) as possible and drink lots of water. There will be significant improvement.

More dental hygiene including mouthwash. Also go to the doctor as there may be some intestinal or digestive issues.

He needs to scrape his tongue with a tongue scraper where all the bacteria sits. Just using a mouthwash doesn't always work but do use both in conjunction. If all of this fails, he may have cavities or need a root canal. Have him see a dentist.

Quick fix without hurting his feelings is to offer a Listerine Pocket Strip to him. Put one in your mouth then offer him one. Some stores sell them for like 3 in a pack. I gave my husband one and his breath be kicking too. I did it in a way not to hurt his feelings. But he may need to see a dentist because he may have gum disease or just needs to brush.
