mostly marrages were prearranged. if you look at the story of joesph and mary she was bethoed to him. It was not finalized generally until they consumated the marrage. that was why it was such a big deal that Mary was pregnate before they were truly married. the rest depeds on what time frame you are looking at.

people got married in biblical times but not in church buildings coz they didn't exist at that point plus the church didn't come into beaing till after jesus rose again. but they did marry.

it was a huge event, The groom would ask the parents, then the bride would know that she was getting married but she wouldnt know when, then at the right time, the groom would have a parade with instruments and then they would go pick up the bride. The bride just had to get ready and wait for her groom to come get her, then they had a huge celebration, there is more detail, but this is just a brief summary.
