In the United States, a private license (sufficient to operate a Cessna) can be got in a couple of months, and will cost about US$6,000. Upgrading to a commercial certificate with instrument rating will cost considerably more -- maybe $20,000 nowadays. I did mine when it was a lot cheaper than it is now.

I am apsolutely sure that you can get a sport license for $3000US, which would give you a huge advantage when flying an ultralight.
Ultralights are much easier to fly than a cessna, so youll be right at home if you have any kind of rating at all.

For a private pilot license it takes a minimum of 40 hours of logged flight time and the successful completion of an ground school. For an ultralight you need dual instruction for whatever time it takes you to be certified by the instructor. This can be as little as a couple of flights for a couple of hours.

You don't stand a chance unless you fly a lot better than you spell.

about 4,000 to 7,000 for just the private, 4,000 for instrument and about 8,000 more for commercial because it requires more flying time. so a ballpark, 15,000-18,000
