It is a fact that the human being can and will believe in anything. . .including that there is no God. One can "not" believe in the existence of a God and still have hope that one existed. . .this makes that person an atheist who may desire a God, but still an atheist.
The fact remains that people believe in an entire spectrum when it comes to things unproven . . .and are based on speculation, myths, or books that are thousands of years old. . .
You seem to believe that everyone must believe in Deity for reasons you justify with your mind. Everyone defends what they believe and some do this with their lives, some do it here. . .some do not believe at all. To prove a disbelief is just as difficult as it is to prove a belief.
If God exist, then it should be clear to everyone, as clear as the Sun that heats up this planet. . .yet it is not even close to being that clear. . .why else would there be so many different beliefs in any Deity? All beliefs such as an existence of a Deity is faith based. This does not mean that atheist do not have faith, yet it does not mean they base their faith in a God.
They can chose to believe that everything that is, has always been here and will always be here. Maybe not like we see it in our small corner of all that exist, but in the whole scheme of things, it's easier to believe we are but a small part of something that is forever, than to believe we are a center piece for a GOD that demands worship and praise. We as humans do not have all the answers, and from ignorance many beliefs can be born. . .faith in a God helps the human to exist with a mind that seeks answers (no pun intended here). . . to go through life "wondering" what will become of you can fill the mind with fear of the unknown. . .to soften, in order to ease this fear, we teach and tell our children that God is in charge and looking out for you.
Believe what you will, after all, it is your mind that has to be put at ease.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but you do have a couple of question marks above:
> and you think i have my head in the sand ?
Nope. Hard to type when you have your head in the sand, so you don't.
> no proof you say ?
Nope, no proof. You can't say positively when God acted or how. My old Sunday school teacher had an exercise -- hold a cup of water in your hand, and extend your arm. How long can you hold it? Not very long. But God does that all day, every day, not with just a cup, but with all the oceans! Isn't that wonderful, marvelous, miraculous?
It's bogus. Mrs. Wilson, wherever you are, it's dumb to teach claptrap to children.

Okay, i'll give you that, i'm an agnostic as well. I doubt religion. But i deny the existance of god as well, so, sorry to say, by definition i would have to call my self an atheist. You can't control what others believe, you know? I could easily say that you don't exist either cause i don't believe what you believe, and well, that's just stupid.

"Weak showing????" How about an intelligent question...maybe you would get better answers. And anyway, what's the question? And why oh why is it such a problem for you to hear the phrase "we don't know yet"? Are you saying you know everything there is to know and never have to say "I don't know" to any question asked of you? What hubris!

ah yes, because all beliefs first have to orginate from a book or gospel of some sort. Okay, I'll get right on that whole gospel thing for you, but I have to warn you in advance...It's based on my beliefs :p

You're still not making any sense.
I don't think that you have your head in the sand...quite the opposite, as a matter of fact.

I think we are all guilty of using words we don't fullly understand.
Getting too technical about God is what drives others away and rots the core of well meaning individuals.
