why should we when it is not the official religion of our country (UK) and we have our own perfectly adequate religions. If they leave us alone, we'll leave them alone. What they choose to believe is entirely up to them, as it is to us. We certainly don't want to convert and have to dress and act like middle eastern historical characters. We live in the West and want to remain that way.

perhaps I should clarify. many of us have read the koran, and other holy books from other religions. for many of us, none of them make any logical sense. None of them is provably correct and many make no sense at all. Threats and bribes form a being so superior that we are probably less then bacteria to him. Well, first produce the evidence. The usual reply is - read the book. Well since when was that any proof of anything? What people want is "real" proof of the existence of a god. If that isn't forthcoming, why would anybody believe? In fact, I'm not even sure that belief is enough, what's needed is certain knowledge.

I'm glad some people agree with me on a "live and let live" basis. I'm not really considering them in this. Like the majority of the population, they just get on with life - good for them. However (Oh no! there had to be a however didn't there :-) ), there are sufficient members of VARIOUS religions who seem to find it a personal affront that others disagree with them. That's why we have to understand as many of the holy books as possible, in as much detail as possible. The problem is simply that various religious groups argue that theirs is "THE ONLY WAY". they're the ones who are dangerous because, to them, everybody else is a heretic.
so, an understanding of everybody's poeition is necessary but, from these answers pages alone, it is quite apparent that some do not feel this way (not many here I'm glad to say).
I suppose tolerance can only be measured by actions. How would a moslem feel if a synagogue sprang up next door to his mosque, or a cathederal, or a Wiccan temp

Q) many moslems tell us we should study their religion.?
A) Its because some non Muslims these days are making such weird and wonderful assumptions which simply aren't true. If you read a book on the subject you might build a better understanding instead of forming wild assumptions.
Q) why should we when it is not the official religion of our country (UK) and we have our own perfectly adequate religions.
A) According to UK law there are enough Muslims in the UK to make Islam a recognised religion. We understand that there are many other religious practises within the UK and we are highly tolerant of them.
Q) If they leave us alone, we'll leave them alone.
A) You are obviously referring to the 'war on terror.' Many Muslim people in todays society are good natured human beings. We integrate well, get jobs pay taxes etc. We don't want to be left alone. These terrorists account for less than 0.0001% of the Muslim population. The rest are really nice!
Q) What they choose to believe is entirely up to them, as it is to us.
A) And rightly so!! each to their own as they say!
Q) We certainly don't want to convert and have to dress and act like middle eastern historical characters.
A) Obviously not, we don't expect you to. It would be silly wouldn't it!
Q) We live in the West and want to remain that way.
A) Good for you. I hope you remain happy the way you are, likewise I hope you are happy about the way we are and live our lives.

I think as muslims we are not pressuring anybody to believe or follow Islam, as everyone has their own beliefs or faiths..I dont know what you have seen on yahoo answers but iv not come across one answer that is pressuring others to belief in Islam, only where a muslim would state to study their religion where critisicm has been given which is understandable..Your question is really of a mindless one..I live here in the UK, have blond hair and blue eyes and I was not born a muslim, but now Iam and I am the happiest person i will ever be.I was never pressured into following Islam and in actual fact it took me a long time to finally read the testimony of faith and embrace Islam..It is perfectly fine you remain the way you are, it is not like you get muslims knocking at your door preaching at you to study the religion or anything like that.you remain content as you are but let us remain content as we are also and that also means not posting questions about muslims which is unnecesary. everyone has their own freewill in society. no one is hassling you unless you provoke it.

Yes, we tell you to study because most of you criticize Islam without knowing about it first. This is actually a good invitation though, because most criticizing and blaming acts prove your ignorance of Islam. I like the part you said "What they choose to believe is entirely up to them, as it is to us" yes I also believe this. But how many of you actually believe this motto? Everyday I see people trying to vilify Muslims and Islam spreading ill-motivated (evil-motivated) lies against Islam. Until this practice has been stopped, we will always retaliate.
BTW, now I'll 'tell' you to spell Muslim, not moslem. moslem is incorrect. See? Ignorance can be very broad. And yes, I suggest you to redefine the word "we" in your question after you check out how many British people are every year converting to Islam.

as rational humans we have to read and know all all six religions. but study means going deep, thats when u get interested. as a hindu i am happy with my religion with 30,000 gods, each jealous if u fail to say hello to one. Jesu made all aspects of life and creator very very simple. Muslims have perfected jewish religion and regimented the followers. why are muslims fast growing?
why are christ churches closing down by the dozens. why is paganism flourishing side by side even in established religions.
you were were living in the west. now globally tell me where is west? there is north south and the equator. east and west are all round and round. in india all white persons with a little money come in a non ending stream to preach and heal and convert. so rethink your adequate religionS and your WEST attitude. travel out of UK and see the world, to know the human genome is the same, and started black in angola somewhere. no body can leave nobody alone. study their religion and strengthen your faith in whatever you approve.

did someone ask u to convert or wear a robe or grow a beard?
they ask u not to give out of context verses -- just the way u dont want them to give u out of context verses.
and as far as leaving others in peace is concerned -- who has done that better than ur country. why dont u open the simple and single chapter of East India Company and what they did to the world? they made slaves out of almost the whole world. they looted and plundered every person and every home and every country of its resources. what will u say about that?
why didnt u let others live in peace then? and let me tell u thats its very rescent just 60years back that India got its independance after almost 200 years of slavery under ur country. DIVIDE AND CONQUER -- remember this? who introduced it?
EDIT: we muslims are fed up of some people causing all the bloodshed in the name of our God and Islam. even we are trying a way to get rid of all these problems. and for the link of muslims scholars and clerics condemning terrorism globally please check out this link.

AN EXCERPT FROM THE ARTICLE.
"In contrast, the United States has secured only one conviction over the September 11 bombings and has instead chosen to hold hundreds of terrorism suspects indefinitely without trial in Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, and other unknown locations. In total, Indonesia has arrested and tried more than 30 militants from the Al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah regional network. Three key bombers are on death row awaiting execution."

IF YOU LEARN ABOUT ANOTHER RELIGION THEN YOU HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THAT RELIGION. I AM A CATHOLIC BUT I AM INTERESTED IN OTHER RELIGIONS I BELIEVE IN BEING ALL INCLUSIVE AND OPEN TO DIFFERENT FAITHS. BY BEING OPEN TO DIFFERENT CONCEPTS YOU CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR FELLOW MAN AND WITH KNOWLEDGE COMES UNDERSTANDING AND ACCEPTANCE. THEN YOU WILL LEARN TO BE TOLERANT OF THOSE DIFFERENT THAN YOU THUS BRINGING WORLD PEACE A LITTLE CLOSER, OR YOU CAN GAIN AT LEAST A NEW FRIEND.

Don't worry there, British Brother. Here in the US many religious nuts tell us that ALL Americans should study the bible and become christian.
If Bush could force us all to be christians he would do so.

I have studied their religion and it has nothing that I want. Mohammed was reputed to be a child molestor so why would he be an authority to start a religion is beyond me. Many Muslims are wonderful people but it is the radicals that cause all Muslims to be suspect.
