Thanks once again to all who answered my problem about the van "fish-tailing" - that is swaying side to side. Several said alignment, some said shocks/strutts, some said tires, and 1 only said U-joint ("U' stands for universal.) I suspected that is what it might be but I needed some other ideas as to what it might be. Well - here I am in the library across the street from my "trusted " mechanic - & he called me in to look under the van while the van was on the lift and pointed out the problem - the "U" joint - yes - the universal - it is loose and that is what is causing the wobble - it is going to cost $125 - material and labor. I recall having seen them drop out from under vehicles on the road and I myself have had this problem with previous vehicles, mostly the Dodge, but never a Ford; so if you should ever experience this, think of the "U" joint - the universal. Once again - thanks to all who responded. Mary

A bad U-joint can cause death. I remember a class mate of mine in high school that died in a car accident when the front u-joint in his ride came loose. The front end of the driveshaft dug into the pavement at 55 miles per hour and flipped the car, killing him. It is nothing to play around with. If you feel a vibration in the driveline, especially one that comes and goes at two different speeds while you accelerate, it should be looked into quickly, it can be very dangerous for a u-joint to fall apart.

your alignment is completly off. your van would desire to of been in an twist of way forward for some variety or hit from at the back of becuz it wouldnt try this normaly. and vehicles get alignments fixed, its no longer in basic terms automobiles that get an alignmentm, each and every motor vehicle does.
