We were there a year ago this week, first thing we did was to go up the Empire State Building, we paid for the audio tour as well, which made the incredible sights we were seeing come to life, felt very stupid after we discovered we had left our camera behind at our hotel. We came down at about 19-00 but should have stayed up there until nightfall, missed an opportunity to see NY light up. This is one of the MUST things to do in NY.

Only made it to the observatory - they weren't allowing people to go further up (don't know whether it was because I went on Christmas Eve or because genuinely don't). Was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Good views of the city, particularly looking down towards lower Manahttan. Take the audio tour if you. Get there for about 9am to avoid the queues.

Awesome !, Its one of those places in the world that has to be experienced. True not that 'pretty' when you actually get to the viewing platform but none the less an amazing experience. We did the Empire and the Twin Towers, [RIP] in the same day, just electric, so consider myself to be one of the lucky few that have experienced them both.
