Cyclists in busy pedestrian areas like central London are a real menace. They have a smug, self satisfied view of the world and no respect for anyone or any rules. Any measures to control this growing pestilence will be overdue. We really are fed up.

They are subject to the same criminal & traffic laws as everyone but this is rarely enforced. A friend of mine was badly injured by a cyclist who did stop - to give a mouthful of abuse to add insult to the copious amount of injury given. Cyclists seem to fall into two camps - the self-righteous green wing and the thugs. I am unsure who is the preferable bunch.

I think anything that uses our roads should all have tax/insurance and number plates of some kind, because they use the roads that we pay for and maintain.
I had someone scrape up the side of my car in the west end but there was nothing I could do,a private prosecution would be a waste of time because they just give wrong details, and you cannot check anything up

Do license plates make all vehicle drivers responsible? of course no longer. this theory gets floated each and all of the time, frequently via people who do unlike bicycles on the roads, hoping that requiring registration will discourage cyclists. Many cities, alongside with the single the place I stay used to require bicycles to have license plates. They gave up by using fact they could no longer can charge sufficient money to conceal their expenditures. One additionally has to place into attitude how huge a "problem" reckless cyclists pose to the first public. the respond is that different than for the indisputable fact that many drivers locate cyclists stressful, it extremely is vehicles that pose a extensive probability to the first public, no longer bicycles. human beings die by using fact of vehicles daily, cyclists blanketed. it extremely is significant focus public factors coping with the actual problems particularly of dropping time and money on annoyances.

Considering the number of cyclists I have nearly run over who feel that stops sign are for cars only and rocket through an intersection, I want it to be manditory.

surely you can still launch a legal case against them for personal injury? even cars with number plates could have been stolen so even if you had the number plate you might not find the culprit...so number plates are not the answer

yes they should. my sister in law was hit and thrown 6 feet by a bicyclist. now she is suing the person under there home owner's policy. people die, rarely though, when hit by a bike. they think just because they have a bike they can ride on the sidewalk and hit people and nothing will be done to them.

They're jerks who think they're as fast as cars. They are not. They slow the entire lane down. And, they ride 10 feet into the road so you can't pass.
In Asia you have to register your bicycle. You get a little license plate.
