if you buy a $2000, (or any tv, cable box, DVD player) today, in 2009 it won't be any good as it would need to be equipt (by law) with a device to be connected to a converter in order to work. for those who just have television, and no cable, or satillight tv won't be able to watch tv.

not only do you need a converter to watch tv. it will be required by law to have these.
is this really true?

technically, yes, if it cant receive digital signals you will need some kind of converter box by 2009. BUT, it was originally 2006, and they changed it, so who's to say they wont change it again. My bet is they will, because 3 years from now most people will still have the old analog tv's.

I think what you're referring to is the transition from analog to digital broadcasts. In the near future, all TV will be broadcasting digitally in high definition. If your TV doesn't support hd signals such as 1080i, 720p, and higher, you will have to have a converter. If your $2000 TV today supports HD, you won't have to worry about it. Your DVD player connects to your TV and isn't affected by it, but by that time I'm sure you'll want a HD-DVD player.

"The FCC has mandated that all broadcasts must be made in digital starting on February 17, 2009. The original deadline of January 1, 2006 was abolished when it was realized that TV stations and customers would not be able to meet the earlier deadline."

I hope you get a more detailed answer than this, but, yeah, it's
gonna happen. Something about converting from analog
to digital broadcasting. Not too sure about cable boxes and
dvds. Before you lay down a big chunk of money for a tv,
any reputable retailer should tell you about having to buy a converter

seems such as you elect a opposite RF modulator, i don't understand if this variety of difficulty exist. the user-friendly and much less costly answer is to stumble on an previous VCR (working or no longer) with a coax enter and crimson, white and yellow outputs and use it to transform your sign
