I drink starbucks made at my office, and use half & half and sugar. Sometimes I'll go 2 days without using the cup and might leave some coffee in the cup for those two days. Ocassionally I wash it out with water and some dish soap, but i want to know what bacteria, etc. might grow and what effect could it have on me?

The main risk is increased likelyhood of bacterial diseases, such as strep, Crohns and stomach ulcers. So, more sore throats, gastric upset and pain.

Unsolicited advice: Half and half is less risky than low-fat milks: it is less processed after pasturization. Ceramic is better than plastic; in some studies bacteria decreased if left on ceramic surfaces. Try to let the cup dry overnight (see all the studies on wet sponges.) You might also use a bit of hot coffee to rinse the cup out each morning.

When I was using half and half and sweetner I'd wash my cup twice a week (sometimes once a week)...

Now that I drink it black all the time, I wash it once every two or three months....

As long as the liquid completely dries (mine does about an hour after I finish each cup) bacteria won't grow...

Pls overlook with reference to the stupid "your toddler will die" remark, it is not actual. there is not any discover ways to my know-how that any delivery sickness is brought about via espresso intake. whether there is evidence to coach that infants born to mums with a extreme caffeine intake are born with a dependency on it and get cranky (cry a lot, get fussyand by no potential look to cool down ideal) the comparable way adults do in the event that they don't have their espresso contained in the morning. it relatively is why we sell that mums-to-be do no longer drink espresso or caffeinated beverages like Pepsi, Coke, Dr Pepper a lot during being pregnant. 2-3 cups an afternoon is in all probability around the right of the ok shrink so i does no longer tension too a lot approximately it. you will evaluate dropping that right down to a million-2 cups an afternoon yet no would desire to pass without.

Ther's a good chance that some bacteria will grow. Try leaving the cup for a few more days. Fortunately, many of the bacteria you'll see won't hurt you if ingested in small quantities(isn't our immune system amazing?)

Yeeew! Germs, insect eggs, mouse droppings or hair, just plain nasty. I guess though if you've been doing it this long, you've probably built up some sort of immunity, to the germs & when you least suspect it, they will raise their nasty heads, & hit you like a ton of bricks, & you'll sit on the toilet for weeks on end, & your hair will fall out, to mention a few ! But if your too lasy to rinse out your cup??????
