I just want to do this because it's such an incredible cause. I wont be able to participate if I dont come up with the money!!! What are some good fundraising ideas where I can get the money QUICK...I only have until November 10th. By the way, if you want to help me out, here is my webpage:

Deanna -- It's going to be tough, largely because you're not afflicted with the disease, and neither is anyone in your family. I wrote a great letter, but my Mom is going through breast cancer right now, so raising the money was easy for me. Still, I've seen some others come up with creative ideas. Here are a few:

* Car wash, bake sale, raffle. Let's get the traditional ones out of the way. Yeah, everyone does them, but they do them because they work. They're best used when it's a team, though, and not an individual. If you're not on a team, sign up with one today! And start training and communicating with that team. You won't believe the difference it will make.

* Fundraiser. We had one at a bar here in Atlanta. Everyone on the team brought stuff to raffle off, and there was a charge for the event at the door. Even people who were just coming to the bar for a few drinks pitched in. All of the money raised was split among the ladies who still hadn't met their goal.

* Chili cook-off. This takes a bit of coordination, but it can raise a good bit of cash. You charge for entries ($50 a pot), and you charge for people coming to taste (at least $10 a head - $20 if they get beer with their chili). Depending on how much you raise, you offer a $100-$200 first prize, and the rest of the money goes to the effort. As a side, you could also offer a salsa-making contest - $10 an entry and a $25 first prize. Good sports will turn their winnings back into the contest. All proceeds, again, go to the ladies who haven't reached their goal.

* Try getting people to sponsor you per mile. Sometimes folks will chip in if they think about the distance. At .25, you get $15; .50 brings you $30; $1 a mile gets you $60; and so on. Promise to take pictures and report back to them on your progress.

Those are just a few ideas. E-mail me if you need any more help -- and if you're not already doing your training walks, you'd better hit the road, starting tomorrow! The San Diego site should have a number of opportunities for that, as well. Good luck!

P.S. -- By the way, your link on your page goes to the main San Diego page and not to your personal page. You need to fix the link so that it doesn't split to a second line.

How long have you been training for the walk? I did it twice, in Santa Barbara about 8 years ago and in Seattle 4 years ago (When Avon was doing them), then I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago.

Fund raising was the hardest part for me too. Talk to coworkers, in front of grocery stores, see if your local newspaper will run an article about you and your training team. You can often get contributions when people see the article.

The 3-Day website should also have suggestions on how to raise funds.

I'm volunteering at the local Avon Walk this weekend. The commitment to long training walks was getting too difficult for me.

I went to a marriage at present the place they made a charitable donation in lieu of favors - they placed little "table tents" made up of cardstock on each reception table with the help. despite if, I do think of it is in poor style to have a donation table at your wedding ceremony. despite if it is philanthropic, I placed it interior an identical class as a wishing properly or a funds dance - it is not cool to spring a request for funds on travelers at your social gathering, despite if it is for a competent reason. If somebody asks you what you will like as a marriage present, you may incredibly say, "we are so fortunate to have each thing that we %, yet you will possibly have heard that my mom became at present clinically determined with breast maximum cancers. A donation to the Breast maximum cancers Society could be a good present."
