It's looking more and more like Vista won't even be close to Tiger, and Leopard looks to be a fairly significant improvement over Tiger.

One of many problems with Vista is the way it handles the transition to 64-bit computing. On Leopard, applications and drivers can be any combination of 32-bit and 64-bit, but on the 64-bit version of Vista, 32-bit applications have to run in a compatibility layer and 32-bit drivers won't run at all.

Another big problem for Vista will be security. User Access Control appears to be so bad that many users are expected to bypass it altogether. Meanwhile, here we are, over 5 years into OS X and there are still zero viruses for the Mac OS.

System requirements are another Vista problem. It's looking like 2 GB of RAM on a high-end, new PC are almost required for Vista to run with decent performance, but with every new version of OS X, older systems have run even faster than before.

There are just too many useful features already in OS X that are either missing or poorly implemented in Windows to mention here.

The simple answer is, Windows is currently way behind OS X so Vista is just to try and catch up. So Leopard already has an advantage.
