By his owns words and I quote, "In the place where I was a child, there were no artists and there was no art, so I really didn't know what that meant. I think I thought it meant that I would be in a situation different than the one that I was in."
by this I believe he is a very pleasant person, whom inspires others to follow their dreams

Jasper Johns is alive !! He is one of my favorite artists. I have some books about him, and I just read a bit about him in an encaustic painting book. The book talks about all the expensive supplies you can use when working with wax as a medium, but then there is a picture of Johns in his studio. He has a very simple setup, just a hot plate and a saucepan. That tells me he is very unpretentious. There is a brief interview in the book, and he admits that some of his earlier works, the encaustics with collages, cracked. His answer to one question stands out in my mind:
Q: Would you describe your technique?
A: I know so little. I do what most people do. I look to see what others have to say about it and what they have done.
He sounds like a very good guy who is not too caught up in his own fame. Wikipedia has a nice article, and once again, I get the impression that he is a sincere, down-to-earth man who happens to be a very talented artist.

Why not ask him?

Jasper Johns is still very much alive and probably has his own web site. Try going there and asking him yourself. Who knows? He may be kind enough and sincere enough to reply in detail.

HE WAS RESERVED BECAUSE OF HIS HOMOSEXUALITY... HE LEAVES HINTS OF THAT IN HIS PAINTINGS --- ALWAYS A SENSE OF ISOLATION AND SOLITUDE... LOOK AT HIS MATURE STYLE
YOU CAN FIND SEVERAL EXAMPLES OF WHAT I JUST MENTIONED
