Belgium is irrelevant in world politics, if you ask me.

Belgium is less important in world politics but that's just the point. The headquarters had to be located in a place neutral to all and in the neighbourhood of most of the participating countries (which are mostly in Europe). If you placed it in the Pentagon the NATO would only be a department of the USA and would not be considered has neutral. Now a lot of old Warchaupact countries have become member or are asking to become a member. If the HQ would be in the US, this would be politically not possibly.

About disbanding the NATO : the NATO is more and more helping against the struggle against terrorism (fe Afghanistan). That all these nations can work together is that the NATO imposes some standards so that communication is possible, logistics are possible (NATO standardised the rifle ammunition which was before a logistic nightmare).
If there is no more NATO the Europeans would start a proper defence organisation WITHOUT the US having to tell anything to them. It would be a loss for the US because at this moment every soldiers counts.

What does Belgiums relevance in world politics have to do with NATO HQ? But yea I think moving NATO HQ to the US, preferably the Pentagon would be a great idea. It would finally finish an organization that has no reason to exist.

the headquarters are situated in Brussels because
- Belgium was one of the leading country's in starting up the NATO together with the Netherlands, Luxembourg,France and the UK.
- It is situated near all the major capitals of Europe .

The chance of getting the headquarters to the US are nil because the building of the new buildings is almost started

NATO is all about the defense of Europe. Its headquarters needs to be in Europe. If the headquarters were in the US it would be perceived as an organization to benefit the US, and European countries would be even more reluctant to support NATO actions.

I think NATO should be disbanded. It served it's purpose during the Cold War, now with most of Europe in the EU, it is not needed. Europe can now police itself. It is costing the U.S. millions of dollars each year for a security that is not needed. Russia is not a threat to Western or Eastern Europe.

And what is the US? Your economy is going down the plughole in Iraq-did you think you could invade an entire country for free? By the time you lot manage to escape from Iraq your economy will be poorer than Belgium's.
