To take an armpit reading, have your child sit on your lap or next to you, and keep him relaxed and occupied by cuddling with him or looking at a book or watching television together. Make sure his underarm area is dry, and then slip the bulb into his armpit. To get a reading, the bulb needs to be in full contact with the skin, so hold his arm firmly against his side or bent and folded across his chest. When the thermometer beeps, take it out and read it.
