I went in for my 6 week postpartum checkup yesterday. I still have been bleeding and my doctor knows that now. He also knows that I've been having dizzy spells and back pain. All he did was check my uterus and look at my back, and he did a urine test to make sure I don't have a bladder infection. I feel he didn't really address my dizziness problem. And all he said about my bleeding and back pain, was that I need to start exercising and that my uterus was back to normal so it should be fine. I thought exercising would make my bleeding worse, but he said no that it could even make it go away. Does any of this sound right? Should he have had my blood checked to see if my iron was low? Maybe he just overlooked the dizziness and forgot I had mentioned it? I don't want to just write him off as a bad doctor, even though I feel he hasn't been completely attentive or thorough lately. Should I go back and ask for a blood draw?

If you're not satisfied with is suggestions get a second opinion. Maybe the 2nd will agree with the first, who knows. At least you will have peace of mind.
However, 6 weeks of bleeding postpartum is NOT unusual. Taking oral birthcontrol will help. Dizziness could be caused by the bleeding or with a new baby could be fatigue or dehydration. Keep up your strength by eating good & drinking plenty of water. Dehydration &/or menstral pains could be causing the pain in your back. Try Motrin for that. If you're not better in a week go back to the dr.

I too had a sever bought with dizziness and still have it most of the time, like I felt like I did with a hangover, the room spins at 6 weeks it was really bad, my doc said It was normal and not to worry. As for the bleeding I would get a 2nd opinion, my doc told me to get off and stay off my feet when I was spotting. He is a high risk OB. They also did a pelvic ultrasound at 6 weeks to make sure everything was fine and it was. Now If I was you I'd go to the ER and they will do a whole work up on you right then and there
Good luck and God bless
Let me know how it turns out for you

Suggestions/thoughts:
Start taking an iron supplement if you are't just to be safe. Chelated iron is more available to your body and less likely to cause constipation. Blackstrap molassas iron tablets are good. Go to your health food store and ask for help.
You didn't say where your back pain is located? Upper/lower/mid back?
Did you have an epidural? That might explain the back pain.
Are you nursing? Are you making sure to sit comfortably so that you are well supported when you do so? Make sure you are bringing baby to the breast and not the breast to the baby. If you are leaning forwards while you nurse, that could cause back pain.
Consider seeing a chiropractor and discussing the back pain with him. Maybe your body is really out of balance from the exertion of birthing. Maybe he could help with your backpain.
If you are overdoing it, that could make your bleeding go on for longer. Take it easy for a few days and see if your bleeding slows or stops.

You can always go get another opionion. If your only concern is about low iron, just take iron supplements, which you are supposed to do postpartum anyhow. You don't need a prescription for that. As for exercise, it's not like you need to be doing aerobics or running, there is postpartum exercise you are supposed to do with your tummy to tighten up the stomach muscles.

Acutally exercising makes it less ... or at least it helps lessen it ... I was always told when I was on my period if you had bad cramps running could help because of something with the contractioning muscles!! Neways you can exercise thats perfectly fine... If you would feel better about it then go get your blood drawn ... it doesnt hurt to just double check everything and make sure!!! Good Luck

Go back and tell him that you are concerned that the bleeding is still going on...I only beld for about 2 weeks after delivering my son. The dizziness could be related to the blood loss...tghey should also be checking your iron levels...go back!! Make another appointment

I would get a second opinion. There could be a serious problem, like they missed some of your placenta. If you aren't comfortable with his answers, then trust in your instincts. You are the only one who knows if something is wrong. Definately do not let this go. Especially with a new baby, you wouldn't want to put her in danger if something is wrong , and things take a turn for the worse.
Good Luck

If you are worried that your physician didn't completely answer your questions then you should contact him again , and again until you have the answer to your question. There are several things that could be causing the dizziness so contact him soon and get the issue resolved.
