Are grasshoppers symbolic of something in Amos chapter 7?

" Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings." Amos 7:1

Since God retracks his plan to send these grasshoppers, I suspect that they are not symbolic of anything in this particular case. -- Just my humble opinion.
