Actually, elk do exist in some parts of China. From Wikipedia:

"Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), known as elk or wapiti in North America, are the second largest species of deer in the world.
In Asia, red deer are found from Turkey and Iran through Central Asia, Siberia, Mongolia and northern China."

Also, as to deer:

"There are about 34 species of deer worldwide, divided into two broad groups: the old world group includes the subfamilies Muntiacinae and Cervinae; the new world deer the subfamilies Hydropotinae and Capreolinae. Deer are widely distributed, and hunted, with representatives in all continents except Australia, Antarctica, and Africa."

As to the moose:

"In the East Siberian race of the moose (Alces alces bedfordiae) the posterior division of the main fork divides into three tines, with no distinct flattening. In the common moose (Alces alces alces), on the other hand, this branch usually expands into a broad palmation, with one large tine at the base, and a number of smaller snags on the free border."

Whether the East Siberian race actually makes it into China, I'm not sure -- the map is a bit unclear -- see last link below.

Hope that covers it and answers your question!

This is a tricky one. If you were an experienced hunter, we could discuss the 338 winmag vs the 300 winmag, throw around the 8mm mag, talk about the suprising rise of the 325 WSM and how that might split the difference enough between the 338winmag and 300winmag to be the best choice.... However, I have no idea of your exposure to hunting and shooting. I truely believe that a person with a 338 winmag that recoils so heavily that they winch in anticipation is much less ideal than someone who uses "too small of a caliber" that they can shoot well. You need a caliber that you can shoot well. We don't know enough about your experiences to know if we should be suggesting the 325 WSM or something that is possibly more marginal simply so you have more control. It seems odd that your father wouldn't have a firearm you could use, or that the wouldn't help you choose one. It seems odd that you wouldn't already have access to a good deer rifle (if you did, we'd all just say get a 338 winny for the moose and stick with your current gun for deer) For covering everthing, a 30-06 is a good choice, but pretty much everyone woudl agree that if you already have a 308, 7x57, 270 or something similar, that would be redundant. we need more information on your experience and what firearms you currently have access to
