Very good question, and the answer IS known.
Creation exists so that the Creator can experience himself/herself. All of creation is a perfect environment for every variation of conscious experience, from that of an atomic molecule, to the supra-enlightenment of the Creator-God itself. From the murderer to the saint. From the wretched to the wealthy.
In the beginning there was the Creator, the Creator was all that there was and there was nothing that was not the Creator. The Creator, though aware of every aspect of It's own Divinity, could not experience Itself - in the same way that you may be aware you are a generous person, but you cannot experience the act of giving generously unless there is someone other than you to whom you can give.
So the Creator divided Itself into an infinite number of consciousnesses and gave each the gift of forgetting so that they would forget they were part of All and experience themselves individually. Each was then further granted the gift of free-will so that they would be co-creators of their own experience.
That's why the world began. That's why you are here. You are God, experiencing what it's like to be you.

This is actually a good question and the answer is not known at this time. What is known at this time is the beginning of the world has nothing whatsoever to do with anything relating to people or their imaginary gods.
World in this sense meaning universe - if you just mean the earth, it began as part of the process whereby stars and planents are formed from gas clouds.

The formation of planets is a perfectly ordinary and common occurrence concomitanant with star formation. Simple natural occurrence in response to simple natural forces. Google for 'planetary nebula'.

Because God is a Creator, a Master Artist, who delights in creating with the medium of Life. There are more Wonders of Creation that we will behold when we leave this Earth.
Why does an artist create? They are expressing themselves. But those who receive the work of art may not be so creative...may even destroy the work...or not appreciate it or the artist...may not even acknowledge the artist!

Because it is in the nature of matter to coalesce under the force of gravity to form larger bodies. Why is matter the way it is? No-one knows.
