What were the details of your payment plan and did you think it was fair. How would you suggest a new planner to set up payment arrangements? That is the final piece to my business plan. (And it is a pretty important piece)

it depends on what you are wanting the wedding planner to do. It also varies as far as what you pay them, some have a flat fee and you can pay them a deposit up front like any other vender and the balance at the end..some will charge you a per hour rate, and others will charge a percentage. Many wedding locations ie churches, hotels, historic mansions etc are starting to incorporate wedding planners in to part of their fee for the site so you get the additional help for no charge. My advice is to just research them as you would any other vender so you know that your not being taken for your money. Ask for references and many will have a portforlio of weddings that they have planned. Congrats and enjoy

Wedding planners have their place, I am sure. Personally, I don't think they are worth the money. I am planning a wedding with approx. 225 guests and 14 people in the wedding party. Not a huge wedding, but decent. And I am doing fine without a wedding planner... so I don't think they are worth it. If you have enough people around you to help then I think that is more than enough!

But if you are aiming to be a coordinator, then (as a business woman myself), I would suggest:

25% up front (non-refundable)
25% 2 months before the wedding
25% 1 month before the wedding
25% within 2 weeks of the close of the wedding

No wedding planner, did it on my own. Had a huge wedding with 26 people in it and it went perfectly, but on the other hand we had people that were directly involved, willing participants and we asked and asssigned a project to certain people. Worked out fine. I think wedding planners are a waste of money.

Wedding planners are a total waste of time and money. It is a bogus profession if ever there was one. Don't waste your time or money on one!

25 % up front
Then you make a payment plan for the rest.
Try to be fair, they have upfront costs.

I planned it all myself.
