If you think it is, what organizations are better?

I sponsored a child for 16 years through Plan International.

They were accused of being corrupt. They denied the charges and had sent out letters to the donors to account for where the money went and for what purpose.

I received many letters and little gifts from the child I sponsored. It seemed he was aware that there was some financial benefit coming to him regularly.

But the donation was not astronomical--something like $22 a month, plus whatever extra holiday gift. If Plan International was absconding with my $300 per year, and still managing to get some child in Honduras to write me letters and sew yarn onto handkerchiefs and draw pictures and whatnot...what I'm trying to say is that if the $300 was worth so much trouble to them, I guess they earned it.

I have no idea if World Vision is corrupt. I haven't heard anything about them either way. I do know that it is sort of common for the press to attack child sponsorship programs from time to time. Whether this means they're corrupt or whether it means people get bugs in their butts, I don't know.

One way to find out, though it's not for sure, is to see if you are able to visit the child you sponsor. Plan International helps arrange visits. This seems to mean that they don't have anything to hide.

i think any organisation that spends the bulk of its funds on administration rather than aid is probably doing more harm than good in the long run because it turns people off from helping.

i think world vision is right up there with most of the organisations that advertise for financial donations, including the red cross

i think doctors without borders is a better run, more sincere organisation than these two

I've heard nothing but good things about Compassion Internationsl.

I had bad experience with Save the Children.

Make sure you look at their financial reports. If they don't offer them, that's a red flag.

I've only heard stories about this stuff. And, of course this is not evidence; then again if u get enough stories of it, it can become suspect.

ps; I'de bet W.V's history is steeped in religion. ...bet the the house on it!
