Absolutely possible. It's only a 7 hour drive (maybe more depending on where in NY City you live and where in Niagara Falls, NY or Niagara Falls Canada you are going).

8-9 hours. Niagara Falls Can be done in a day, but not the road trip. Go Friday-Sunday.

Its a long days drive and when you get there Youll basicall whent to check in and get some food- For many, spending the next day there is more than enough. There are lost of areas you cna visit such as the Great Lake and Finger Lakes, on the way back.

--and in Winter its damn cold.
