A baby will recognize its mother immediately, by her scent, voice, etc. Babies are unable to see well at first, but the distance at which they see best is approximately 12 inches or so, which is about where the baby is lying while nursing. Once babies start smiling and making noises, giving signs that the recognize people, it is much easier to tell, but they actually recognize mom much sooner than that.

The infant already recognizes your voice when it is able to start hearing in the womb. Normally within the first hours the baby will know mother's scent, especially if breastfeeding.

It's usually immediate. Our daughter turned her head towards my husband's voice right after birth... she was still wet behind the ears! She has recognized both of us from birth both through scent and sound. From the beginning, there were times when only my husband and I could calm her.
When I was pregnant, we would both talk and sing to the baby. My husband would put his head on my lap and talk to the baby and swear that he could hear her talking back to him. :-) She knew us from the start!

Your baby will recognize your voice immediately, because he/she can hear you from inside. I will only take a very short time to remember your face and the smell of you. Babies are made for bonding!!!

Immediately after the birth!
Baby knows you by smell and taste and sound immediately and learns to recognize you visually. (They can't see very far away at first though.)
