As it turns out, every single documented religion has a version of the golden rule. In fact, only two phrase it differently from the popular form.

Popular: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Buddhist (also called the Negative Golden Rule): Do not do to others what you would not have done to you.

Satanist (reactionary): Do unto others as they do unto you.

In many ways, the golden rule is about the one cultural constant humanity has. I'm not asserting that every single culture, faith, etc has expressed it in words, but it's about the most fundamental statement of morality you can find.

The Golden rule-do unto others as you would have them do unto you-is the only rule that matters. If all you ever do is adhere to that simple principle then Nirvana and the highest heavens await you.

The Golden Rule is not about forgiveness. It is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

For a succinct mantra, it fits the bill well.

It is a good one among many good ones. The thing is people have a hard time walking the walk, and little problem talking the talk. Few can practice what they believe but many preach it and it cheapens all wise phrases.

Didn't Jesus Christ, the king of kings, and lord of lord's, show compassion and respect to everyone? The weak, the poor, the rich, the corrupt, the innocent etc.? Yes.

It is a good rule to follow. I'm glad that it's one of the founding cornerstones of Jesus's teachings.

Compassion and forgiveness are for those who have earned them. They are not a basic right of every depraved individual out there.

I think a lot of people who use the golden gold are hypocrites.

They will tell you to do onto others as you would like to be done to you, but then they don't follow it.
