I used to go to a private school (from 1999-2001.) I left in 2001 because I was planning on on doing it through distance education or correspondence. My PAST school had given me my transcript but my current school has just recently informed me that the transcript they have is NOT an original, it is a fax. To issue me with a high school diploma they need the original. I keep trying to phone my old school and get the original transcript but I'm not getting a very good response. They are either saying they will call me back or telling me to call them back and I have already phoned them about 4 times. Today my husband called, and the secretary (from the old school) said that if they sent me my whole student record, it should have the transcript and everything in it, but I don't have the original. I only have a fax. I even remember speaking to my principal directly about it and he faxed it to me. This is really serious as it will effect me ever receiving a diploma. What should I do?

First off, you should never have an official copy of your transcript. The past school should be sending it directly to the new school.
Since you have tried to call the school several times with no success here is what I suggest.
You write a letter.
The written word has tremendous power.
Call back the school one last time and ask for the name of the person responsible for sending out transcripts and the name of the person they report to and that person's title and mailing address.
Then write a very polite letter asking that a copy of your official school transcript be sent to which ever school you need it sent to. Be sure to include the specific person and their title at the new school.
CC (Courtesty Copy) this letter to that person's boss.
I'm pretty sure you will get a response out of that. If not then send a letter directly to the person's boss, detailing the number of times you have left a message and written to this person.
Keep going up the ladder until you find someone who will listen.
Sucks but short of 5 gallons of gas and a match it's the only thing that really works.
And there's no jail time involved this way.

What a hassle! The person who handles transcripts is called the Registrar. Ask to talk to that person and make sure she understands that you need the original with the raised seal. If that doesn't get you anywhere talk to principal and if he doesn't help you start calling the administration offices that oversee that particular school. You may need to pay for the originals and for the postage but it will be worth it to have them in hand. And get at least 5, because you will need the originals to get into college. We've been through this too and sometimes you have to go to the top to get your solution. Stay vigilant. You'll get what you need!

Call your school board and ask to speak to the superintendant. Don't take "later" for an answer. He/she will help you, because they're elected officials. Throw in that your husband works for the paper or one of the news channels!

I would go to the school and demand them. If they don't give them to you, then enlist the help of an officier. Depending on your state, police officiers have the authority to make them do what you need them to do. Good luck!

Call the board of education & report them. Sounds like they just don't want to bother with you.
