Yes we went for a week's holiday near there earlier this year.

We actually stayed nearby at Mullion - see this site>>> http://www.barnsatmullion.co.uk/ there is a small beach very close by which is often totally deserted!

Helston and the whole Lizard Peninsular area is very nice and unspoilt. Here are a few tips about things to do etc.:-
* Some of the beaches are almost completely covered at high tide. So before booking your holiday see if you can find out which weeks there is a low tide around midday so you can actually get on the beach!
*The best beach by far is Kynance Cove - which is completely underwater at high tide see here for photos>>> http://www.chycor2.co.uk/westcountryviewscornwall/coastal/kynance/kynance.htm
* Also visit the Poldark Mine - a very interesting underground tour round an old Cornish Mine
* Nearby is Goonhilly Down Satellite Earth Station - which provides a very interesting and entertaining guided bus tour (and has free internet access on the site!)
* RAF Culdrose is nearby and is supposed to have open days and guided tours but was closed when we were there because of some staffing problem
* St. Michael's Mount is worth a visit (at low tide!) but it's very expensive to get into the Abbey itself
* The Lizard Lighthouse has an interesting tour and breathtaking views
* Forget Lands End unless you really enjoy awful third-rate tacky theme parks - which is what Lands End has become
* Mobile phone reception is very poor in the whole area but apparently the ORANGE Network is better than most (certainly better than Voda!)
* don't forget to try the genuine Cornish Pasties and crab sandwiches!

If I remember rightly Helston hold a flower festival during the summer season, I never got to it but have driven through Helston a few times.
Devon & Cornwall are both beautiful counties with some marvelous sights and lots of history.
One place I really enjoyed was Polperro.

I have a very dear friend who lives there, its breathtaking. Its where the Poldark series was filmed in the 70s (if you are old enough to remember that). It apparently gets very busy in the summer months so it must have something going for it!

I haven't been for many years, but I remember that it was lovely. I love Cornwall anyway and always enjoy visiting.
