A K-Bar is a clip point single edged knife designed during the second world war for the US military. It is a very strong robust blade,it keeps a good edge and is a good camp knife as well as fighting blade. Actually it seems to be used more to open cans then enemies. The fact that it is still produced used and valued by the serving military is testimony to its usefulness and design. If you can this is a great gift to a marine. It is historically right and utilitarian for daily use.

A K-BAR is the Marines knife. It usually has a blade between 6-8 inches long. You can find one of these at most military surplus stores ; the price will vary.

A BAR is a Browning Automatic Rifle, but I don't know if it's related.

Edit: Asked if I had a better idea on bringing weapons onto a military base, I'd say a knife does not qualify as a weapon of concern. Would my Swiss Army knife have to be kept in a locked trunk too? Grow some balls, you gutless wonders!

The K-BAR is a knife. It is a variation of the Bowie knife. Other common names for it is Marine Fighting knife,& Marine Bowie Knife. It was orginally used by the Marine Corps in WW2 for hand to hand combat in the jungles.
Due it's size and heft it can be used for hacking the enemy as well as stabbing the enemy in hand to hand combat.

Check out your nearest Bass Pro Shop. They carry the K-Bar in the knife section.
