Whenever I eat sweets, I get soooooooo sleepy! I don't get the sugar "high" that most people get. It just drops me! I feel like I'm almost in a coma and literally cannot get up and function. I have to sleep! Will lowering my carbs help?

Sounds like you aren't eating a well balanced diet.

Based on my 13 years of bicycle racing experience, I would encourage you to eat a well balanced diet based on the 5 basic food groups. Also eat a lot of fruit, and raw veggies and salads for snacks, and stay away from the junk and fast food. When you do eat your meals it's very important to eat just one serving and don't heap up your plate. Most servings are between a 1/2 and 1/3 cup. If you choose to eat red meat only have a piece the size of a deck of playing cards. That's all one really needs. You also might want to check with your county extention office they will have a lot of helpfull literature for you and most of the time it's free. And don't forget to exercise. I've put in a couple of links that might help too ...Good Luck !

Yes and No...you have good carbs and bad carbs. You want to be able to distinguish the two. Eat a well-balanced diet including fresh veggies and lean meats. Pretty much include all your basic four food groups and stay away from processed or refined sugars, which is found in most if not all sweets like candys, pastries and sodas. The good carbs like you find in pastas and breads which aren't processed and "enriched'" will do you alot of good, as far as giving you the energy you seek. Again, balance and nutrition. Just stay away from the sweets made with refined sugar and you should feel the difference in no time.

Don't go on a no carb diet like Atkins. So many people are getting cancer now after trying that .
Better to go with the Zone or South Beach diets. They are not teaching to give up carbs completely, but to eat teh correct kinds like fruits and whole wheat breads with high fiber. Doctors all around the USA are recommending them.

Most carbs and sugar are known to not be good for anyone, whether you are dieting or not. Our for-fathers did not have the processed crap we all consume now because it's not natural. If you have a problem with sugar, of course cut it out or limit it. I would suggest seeing your doctor for a physical and blood work to see what's going on. You might be hypo or hyperglycemic.

Can't hurt. Always eat some protein with carbs: cheese with fruit, crackers with tuna, &c. Good luck to you.
Get your blood tested for glucose levels. Talk to your doctor - maybe you should see a registered dietician.
