We bought her dress off the rack since we'd gotten lucky and it fit her perfectly. I was told by the bridal shop that I should just be able to take it to a dry cleaner and they could spot clean the word off the back. But I took it to two dry cleaners yesterday and they both refused to do it on the grounds that they don't want to ruin the dress. It's not huge, but it's still embarrasing. Is there another way to get it off?? I'm getting desperate!

I did call the bridal shop but the lady I talked to didn't know the name of the dry cleaner they used or the number. She's going to ask the owners today, but I'm running out of time. I wouldn't be able to get it in until tomorrow probably and my wedding is the 23rd.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH... it is still over a week away =)
i wouldn't use anything yourself, if a dry cleaner is weary you should be too.
I would speak with the owner of the shop and make sure you get the name of that dry cleaner... because if there isn't a cleaner that will touch it, you were mislead when you purchased the gown, and should have the right to return it. If this shop is offering to sell their samples on the grounds that they say it will dry clean out... and it doesn't... this is terrible customer service.
call around to all the cleaners in your area and explain your problem.... some may say oh yes we have done it before, others may ask that you take it in... keep trying g though, because you could probably call every cleaner in the area in that same amount of time it would take to drive to one.... the phone call would be free and far less time consuming.
BEST OF LUCK - fingers crossed for you =)

I suggest that you take it back to the store and have them take care of it. If they were the ones that told you it would come off and they sold it to you that way then take it back. Ask for a manager and explain to them that you have no time, and they told you you could get it off.
If it turns out that they cant help you, then try taking a piece of jewelry or something to cover it. You did say it was on the back so jewelery might not look to good on her back, but maybe you can make a sash from the hem of the dress.
Good Luck
I would raise hell at the store if I were you.
Again Good Luck

Get Ivory liquid dishwashing liquid -- no other brand will do. Get the kind with no smell or other additives like lemon.
Put a dot of the Ivory liquid on part of the word and gently rub with your finger. Gently rinse with water (try a brand new sponge that is not a bright color that will stain) so that only the actual spot is wet.
If the fabric dries and looks okay and the spot is faded, I'd try the rest of the word with the Ivory liquid.

Contact the manufacturer. They typically have 1-800 numbers you can call, or a contact email address from their website. No one know's their fabric better than they do, so they may even be able to tell you a brand of spot cleaner that could bring it up.

According to where it is on the dress, maybe you could put an applique or something over it. I would caution you about using any over-the-counter stuff to try and get it off. If the dry cleaners are afraid to touch it. Maybe if you didn't want an applique, jewelry could hide it, a pin, necklace, something like that. Good Luck!!!

You could take it back to one of the dry cleaners that refused and offer to sign a statement saying you won't pitch a fit or sue them if it does get ruined. Keep in mind, though, that it might get ruined.

ask the store if there's a dry cleaner that they know of that will do it. why did they stamp it? i've never heard of such a thing. that's dumb. if the store is going to do that then they should provide a way to get it off if they're going to sell the dresses.
