yes, and they were real. genesis chapter 6 verse 4, these are the gods that most people back in those days were worshiping. Thor, zeus ect. these gods had the power to control the elements, as well as grant wishes. hope this helps if you need further explination, feel free to contact me.

Absolutely, wherever Christianity travelled the Gods and Godesses of that region were either transformed into gods of evil or into Saints!

In the Catholic Church, many of the saints were originally gods from pagan religions.

It is the same with high days and holidays, for example Christmas Day is not Jesus' birthday, it is a Christian celebration of His birthday that has been slapped on top of a Pagan winter festival.

Most definitely. If they tried to destroy other Christian beliefs that didn't go with the mainstream then they most certainly tried to squash knowledge of other religions.
