Poor thing. I am going through the exact same thing with me Golden Mix. My vet said that she is predominantly golden and that goldens are prone to allergies esp. seasonal allergies. My vet currently has my dog on antihistamine and steroids when it gets real bad. Get him checked by the vet, chances are it's seasonal allergies as well, and they can get him started on meds as well. Do not start changing his food or his flea meds yet, the vet said in the long run it makes it harder to determine what the allergy is. Good luck I know it is hard.

he could be allergic to the advantage. Or he may of had fleas and had a allergic reaction to the fleas MY dog is allergic to fleas really bad and when he gets them He can not stop scratching even after we get rid of them. The only way we could stop him from scratching was to get medicine for it from the vet.
i would take him to the vet just to make sure it nothing.

He could have any type of allergy causing him to scratch. I use Frontline Plus. I find it's better than Advantage. He could have exzema, mange or a host of other skin diseases. The best thing is take him to the Vet and he'll take a scraping and check to see what is causing the problem.

If you feed him dry food only the hair lacks oil to give it lustre and protect against heat, thus dry skin, too! So what to do ... try a egg white on his food or some wet dog food mixed in (a 11oz can per day) Brush twice a day and comb! at least once a day. Not only will you be sure it's not something worse but the canine loves the attention!

first take him to the vet to be checked out for allergies. he could be allergic to his shampoo, or evan the advantage, even though it sounds like it is doing the job. does he also have dandruff with the itching? If so do what i did and start using head 'n shoulders shampoo when you bath him. mine was allergic to the dog shampoo, even the stuff for sensative skin for dogs. I started using the head'n shoulders and he has stopped itching. also no matter what you bath him with BE SURE TO RINSE HIM COMPLETELY TO BE SURE YOU ARE GETTING ALL THE SHAMPOO OFF HIS SKIN. This will also cause him to scratch.

Our Golden does the same - vet says he's allergic to grass! We give him (suggestion of the vet) 75mg of Benadrl - that's 3 OTC tablets (which are 25mg each). They make him a bit sleepy, but he's much more comfortable.
Is your dog scratching at his ears? Vet says Goldens are susceptable to ear infections. Might be wise to bring him to the vet to be checked out, to rule out mange, mites, ect.

It maybe an allergy of some sort or dry skin. Try washing him with a hypoallergenic shampoo with oatmeal in it and try bathing him less often or use a spray on conditioner after you bath him.

Probably dry or sensitive skin, which could be caused by not getting the correct nutrients. You can feed your dog fish oil or buy better food.
