Buy a corkscrew. It's $3.
You'll just tear apart the cork and when you do go out and get the corkscrew out of frustration, it'll be so mangled the corkscrew won't work and you'll have to dig it out and push all the bits into the bottle.
When you use a corkscrew, you screw it in deep and pull it out in one smooth motion. The more you mess with it, the more mangled it gets.
Oh yes. There is one other option. Sabre off the top. Takes practice and a good sabre though. You reeally should only do that with champagne as the escaping foaming champagne pushes away any glass fragments. Regular wine won't do that and you might get glass fragments in the bottle.

It's an old trick. After removing the foil push the cork into the bottle with the handle of a wooden spoon. You might take a little splash in the face, but you will get into that delicious wine. Don't tell anyone I told you this secret!

Break off the top portion of the cork then push the remainder into the bottle. You'll have to drink the whole thing....but that's not a bad thing is it?

Some new bottles of wine are capped and sealed without
cork. So to open it, just twist the cap instead of using a cock-
screw.

Break the cork with a screw driver and filter the wine through a coffee filter. Good luck.

Buy one with a screw top or push the cork into the bottle gently with a knife.

well i think you can use a regular knife but you have to be able to get the cork out and to reseal it. i would just go buy a corkscrew.
