They look at debt for one big simple reason. This reason is: the more you are in debt, the more prone you would be to sell secrets for money [to pay off debts], or so they see it.
They also look at your lifes worth of criminal charges. They have you only list felonies on there, but check your whole record. This is done for almost the same reason. If you had any felonies or theft charges on your record, they may think you will be a repeat offender.
They ask if you know anybody, or if anybody in your family are not US citizens. They do this because people tend to tell their family everything just out of conversation. It would defeat the purpose of being secret if some other country knew about it.
These are only a couple things. Once you submit it, you should be granted an interim clearance to hold off until you are approved or denied.
The whole process, for me anyways, took about 11 months to complete and get approved.

The number one reason for person seeking security clearance to be denied is there credit. Any debt you have get it paid, set up an arrangement, defer any student loans. Get your credit report make sure everything is 1-3. No collections, and no judgements.
Good luck, and thank your for your service.

I am in the military, and your signing bonus is disbursed over the years you are in the military. And each of the disbursments are taxed. so I wouldn't count on that if I were you.
Just think, My signing bonus when I joined was 5,000. the first check was 2500, after taxes, I got 1750. And from what I know, they only pay loans you accrue while you are IN the military. they only pay those after they are a year old,and they don't pay it all at once. they divide the total into how many years you have to serve, or 3000 a year.
Good Luck!

individually, I fell that the human inhabitants might income some from needed spaying and neutering. incredibly interior the circumstances the place the mothers and dads won't be able to decide the place toddlers come from and the poor toddlers are cared for improperly. Over all very few mothers and dads are examined for genetic ailments. in fact i be responsive to mothers and dads who're allergic to each thing and the have toddlers who're allergic to each thing. i've got confidence that anymore there are fit canines on the marketplace extra then there are fit people. in spite of everything maximum good breeders does no longer breed 2 canines at the same time that have been allergic to each thing nor might they breed canines with epilepsy, IBD, undesirable temperaments, or different circumstances that I see people passing on interior the gene pool because of the fact they % a newborn. For some reason people look to take extra useful care and attempt their animals then they do themselves. It basically approximately like people experience that they deserve the privilege of reproducing no remember how the newborn could prove.

NO!!! As long as you are making a effort to pay back your loan, I don't think that your clearance will be denied.
They do talk to your friends and neighbors about your back ground and all that stuff and then they tell you personnally if your clearance has been approved or denied.

It depends on your age. there is no credit check even run on you unless you are above a certain age. I think the age is 28, but you would have to find out from a recruiter for the exact age. But even then, I don't think they would consider that for anything but eligibility into the armed forces. They are only looking into the amount of debt you have and making sure it is realistic that you can pay your bills with the amount you make while you are in. So in a nutshell no, I don't think it will matter.

You have a plan already! Student loan repayment is a must to Uncle Sam! so be advised, a default can cancel your clearance!

A friend of mine is going through the same problem. The only exeption is he LIED about it. He was about 20-30000 dollars in debt. He hid this information, and when they dug around they found this--and quesitoned him. He continued to say he wasn't aware of it, and had one excuse after another.
I don't think he will get the clearance, and will lose his job.

they look into if you have ever been in jail and if you have friends and family who have been in jail and for what. somethings like that will get you denied a security clearance.
