apparently Jesus thinks so.

let's start with this verse first!!
"Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)"

Matthew 15:1-9
1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,
2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!"
3 Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
4 For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'
5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,'
6he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8 " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"

the punishment is the same as the old testament, the fourth commandment states honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the earth and fruitful which means though sometimes those who cursed and dishonored their parents didn't die right away god cut short their life expectancy in years to Judge them it dependinded on the nature of the offense.

I n a nutshell, cursing the person that birthed and nourished you is a sin as much as it is shameful. No matter what you think about your parents you still need to show respect because you're setting yourself to receive that very treatment of disrespect from your children and you wouldn't have the right to punish them because you did it to your parents.I guess that's why we have so many brats around!!!

Jesus was reciting their own law back to them.

Read your own quotes!
"I have come not to abolish but to FULFILL"
"UNTIL everything is accomplished"

Everything was accomplished when Jesus died for our sins and rose again!

John 8:3-5, 7, 10-11
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
