The Wazoo was the name given to the highpriestess of the Babylonians. Being a temple prostitute (a sacred role in the worship of the ancient world) she would perform her duties until she retired at a certain age. Anyone who came to her after this retirement was going to the "old Wazoo".

The Great Wazoo is a slang term used in America in the twentieth century to disparage someone of some significance; e.g., "The Great Wazoo is calling for you." It is commonly considered to have come from French: "wazoo" being a close approximation of the pronunciation of the French oiseau, meaning "bird". Hence, the person to whom is referred would literally be a "higher-up".
