I'm probably just making excuses, but I think that we should be more concerned about changing our health care system and making insurances more available to hard working people. I've had 3 kids on Medicaid, and not because I want to mooch of of the government. My husband has held a full-time job the entire time we've been having kids. It's just hard for us to get on health insurance because our daughter has a medical condition and my husband is overweight. And since he has switched jobs a couple of times, you have to satisfy the waiting period before the insurance will cover pregnancy. I only use the medical assistance I don't go and try and get free handouts from everything else like WIC and Head Start. And personally I would feel better paying deductibles and copays like everyone else if we could get on an insurance plan. But we can't afford to pay for the full pregnancies at $5,000 to $10,000 a piece. Luckily though we will be getting back on a health insurance plan soon through my husband's new job. And I don't plan on getting pregnant again until I know we won't have to use Medicaid. But there are many people out there (unlike me) who do just abuse the system and want to mooch, but that's no reason to punish everyone.

They do not increase how much you receive after the second child. This is already in place. No one can force any one else not to procreate, but they will not give any more FINANCIAL assistance after the second child. The grant would not increase. They also require all recipients to work at least 30 hours a week, so the checks are to supplement the wages of the low income. Investigate the criteria and requirements if you are truly interested in welfare reform. If you rant and rave without facts, it will make you seem simple-minded, and no one will take your complaints seriously. As a health care provider, I have worked with many women and men on Medicaid, and I can tell you that most do not meet the stereotype you want to ascribe to them. All but one have been working, and that patient was well under the age of eighteen, and had a situation where they were taken advantage of by a family member. Medicaid and financial assistance also pay for foster children. Many of them are in college and working, too. When I was in my first years of college, I got Medicaid myself, and now look where I am!

There is a cap of five years that you can receive cash assistance (TANF or welfare). There is also a cap on the amount of food stamps one can receive. I do not think anyone should be allowed to dictate how many children a person can have, for any reason. Really, you do NOT want to open that door to let the government have control over your personal issues.
Also, not all children that are on assistance at the moment were born into the system. Often its a family that has fallen on hard times due to illness or lay-offs, etc, that gets assistance till they can get back on track.
People do not, CAN NOT, keep 'breeding' to stay on the dole (not in America at least) the TANF cap is a Federal law, not regional. Once youve used up your 5 years youre on your own.

Yes, the government should put a limit to the quantity of children that should be supported with free assistance. If you can't afford to have these children, then you shouldn't be getting pregnant in the first place. These money come from hard-working people who pays taxes and majority of them are not using the free assistance program to raise their children. The government is not stupid. They know that you're taking advantage of them by having more babies to get free money. When a kid turns 18 years old, the money is automatically discontinued. Therefore, people try to have more kids by hoping that the youngest kid can help them get money as long as possible. These people should learn self-respect and go get a job.

Not how many kids you can HAVE but how many kids they will support. Like the military they will support up to 4 kids after taht your on your own. So yeah I think they should limit how many kids they will support with free assistance but they can't tell you how many to have.

you know that is a good question i myself think if you can not afford to take care of your baby you should not even think about having sex... also for the teenagers that get pregnant then get on assistance maybe the parents of those teenagers should be held accountable for not having better control of what their kids are doing and with who ...I have 3 boys 12,14,16 i know more or less where they are and who they are with i do allow them to have a girlfriend and i drop them off to the movies and pick them up ...I know i can not be around 24 / 7 but they know right from wrong and if they decided to have sex they know where the condoms are and no i don't encourage them to have sex but i do want them to trust me in order to come and ask for what they need ...

No, but I do think there should be a limit on how long you can receive the assistance. I can't stand seeing these families who abuse the system by receiving every type of assistance they are eligible for, and then never try to better themselves. Yet, they keep having kids! WTF?! There should be a three year limit or less.

Yes. If you can't afford to take care of yourself without getting assistance from the state, how can you expect to be able to take care of a child as well? Kids are expensive. Especially babies.

ABSOLUTELY. One mistake maybe, but a second time around, not necessarily a mistake. I hate the fact that my taxes go to pay for the children on the street corner sitting in a baby carriage while the parents have plenty of money to smoke and drink!!!
