Unfortunately, I'm not sure what I did or how to fix it. I am beginning to show signs of sleep deprivation (forgetting things, hard time concentrating, ect.) and I go back to college in less than a week. Any ideas on how to get back on the good side of the Sandman? (for those of you that dont know, the sandman is the guy who sprinkles special sand over you to make you sleep.. or something like that)

Hi!
Being a college student, I know how you feel. I suggest doing some light exercise about 10 minutes before you go to bed (i.e. 10-20 sit ups) to tire your muscles out thta little bit more. A hot chocolate usually does the trick. Have a detox day as well, about 2 days before you go back. Cut out any coffee or caffinated drinks, stick to pure fruit juice or water ( I know boring, but it is only for one day) and try to eat at least 2 pieces of fruit through the day (If you can do all 5 even better!) See if you can have a steam facial (If you haven't got a steamer, a bowl of hot water will do. Stick your face over it, with a towel over your head to keep the steam in, and take deep breaths.) Try not to get stressed about anything uneccesarily. Make sure any homework is finished a day or two BEFORE you go back, rather than stressing about it in 3 days time when your Prof want it in. Stress is often a factor that keeps many people awake at night.

Lastly, I would reccomend getting to bed 1 hour early the night before you go back. If you wake up too soon, you have an extra hour to get ready...so less stress! If you wake up on time, you should feel nicely re-freshed.

Hope this helps and good luck when you go back!

Ha! Okay, you made me laugh, except not being able to sleep is not so funny.

If you want to go the pill route, Tylenol PM is amazing. Otherwise, wow...I don't have any ideas, the sandman and I have not been on speaking terms since I was about two years old. I read myself to sleep, though. I use a little flashlight so there's no light to reach up and turn off (I go through a lot of batteries falling asleep with the flashlight on).

Yeah, sounds like you pissed him off ! LOL !!!
Evidently I do it myself quite a bit. But I get back at him by taking an Over The Counter sleeping pill, Unisom. Works like a charm !
Take it about an hour before you want to go to sleep, and there's nothing he can do about it !!
EDIT
I see a lot of people are giving you a hard time about " the sand man ". Good gosh people !!! Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor any more ???
Now go ahead and give me a thumbs down. Whatever !

I have never been a fan of pills. I probably only take about four aspirin a year but I do take vitamins daily. I am from northeast Wisconsin so I drink all the time and dont get sick. Thus no pills. My point is that you are not tired. Either your body is not tired or your mind is not tired. If its your body go for a job in the evening. If its your mind than have a night cap (drink booze). It is proven that a couple of alcoholic beverages is actually good for you as long as it is in moderation. I dont practice moderation but that is what I suggest for you.

HELLO!! There is NO sandman. Get over that idea right now. Lack of sleep? See a doctor about it to get help with it, or get some over the counter stuff.

the "sandman" is the guy who leaves those sandy things in your eyes. Try not to be so stressed out. You are stressing and that's keeping you up. Try to relax and breathe deep before you sleep.

I don't think they get it that you were joking about the sandman.well,at least I think you were joking.anyway what helps me sleep is to do breathing exersises.what I mean is to breath in and out slowly for about 30 minutes .oh,and before that, you should take a warm bath .

if that doen't work may be you should buy a new bed.I like the memorey foam bed.it's great.
