Ceasing behavior that has taken over your whole life can be a positive and fun challenge. Since you have identified that behavior that you don't like, then I would ask you to examine what other things that you have found fun to do. Being in school then there are a lot of people to talk with; sports to participate in; art(s) to explore; studying to catch-up with, and there is always listening to a call-in talk radio program where learning about life outside of the music genre' can be exhilerating!

Setting a goal for shortening your music time will also help. Sort of like a 12 step program of eliminating one time out of the day that you listen to your music. Start with not listening between classes and talking and walking with friends instead.

But I would ask yourself are you using music to avoid being involved with friends and other activities? Are you a shy person and this is your way of not wanting to participate with others, but instead just watch alone on a sideline?

But are you an expert with your style of music? Then this might be a wonderful opportunity to take it to the next level. How about being a writer for the school newspaper or magazine for your style of music as their music arts critic? or can you write lyrics? or the music itself? If not, why not?

If I have other thoughts I will send them on, and good luck as I know that you will make progress in a positive direction in conquering a situation that you have identified as a problem and take it to the top as a true victory of you and your good character.

Yes what you can do is put an iPod with your favorite tunes on a table in front of you. Then have a friend with a bat stand behind you. Every time you reach for the iPod have him smash the back of your skull with the bat. This way, you will soon become psychologically conditioned to resist the urge to even look at an iPod much less listen to music because you will associate it with getting bashed in the head.

I wish i was addicted to music as you, but i do give time for myself to think & work & school.
it may feel that your ideal when ur not listening to music but at least dont let it reduce your prformance. atleast avoide during work where you need to focus & walking were its taking time to calm your thoughts.
. besides wouldnt your hearing be affected too with all the headace?
So unless you put down the earphone, you woldnt know the improvement.

My doctor once told me that I have an "unhealthy obsession with baseball".
I told him there are worse things to be addicted to, like alcohol & drugs. Just be thankful your addiction is harmless.
Try using music as a reward for when you finish your homework. Tell yourself that only after you do your school work you can listen to anything you want to listen to.

Of all the potential things to be addicted to, yours is not so bad. Try listening to soft, soothing music, perhaps you will be able to listen and be productive at the same time. Good luck!
